The role of Governance and Executive Support is responsible for managing the organisation’s governance and interaction with the Board of Trustees. The position will support the Chief Executive, covering all aspects of time and correspondence management, to provide a vital and fast-moving service, which will help our organisation achieve its goals.

The role will suit someone who is organised, can work collaboratively, has a high level of computer literacy and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, especially MS Excel and Word, have previous governance issues, preferably will be qualified with the Chartered Governance Institute, self-motivated, has knowledge of Scotland’s third sector, and is a team worker with a willingness to learn.

Established over 80 years ago, Youth 1st is the leading support agency for youth organisations, youth groups, youth workers, volunteers and young people in Fife.

Youth 1st provides services which increase the effectiveness and capacity of our members who engage with young people in the youth work sector in Fife. We support and empower youth workers, volunteers and organisations, leading to strong and resilient community-based youth work, which in turn will improve the life experiences and opportunities of young people.

We have an established membership consisting of a number of youth clubs, groups and organisations from throughout Fife. Most of our member groups are organised and run by volunteers.

Our highly experienced staff team offer support, advice, access to training and events to all our members across Fife. We are a valued Youth Work partner in both the Local and National Voluntary Youth Work Sectors and work closely with our partners in Fife Council, NHS Fife, Fife Voluntary Action and other agencies across Fife.

Following the success of our b:connected programme funded through the Community Health and Wellbeing fund, we are excited to be seeking a Training and Wellbeing Co-ordinator to continue and expand this important work across Years 5 and 6.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support volunteers, youth workers, and sector leaders across Fife — helping those who support others to reconnect, recharge and feel inspired again.

About the Role:

You will coordinate and deliver a programme of support sessions, workshops, training, and events for people working and volunteering in the voluntary youth work sector across Fife.

Your work will focus on improving health and wellbeing.

The role includes two key strands:

• Leadership support sessions – creating safe, supportive spaces for third sector leaders to connect, seek peer support, and reduce stress and burnout.
• Health and wellbeing workshops – organising and/or delivering sessions based (but not limited to) on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, supporting volunteers and youth workers to improve their own wellbeing and build confidence in supporting the young people they work with.

The project will culminate in a large Health and Wellbeing Event in March 2028 for the youth work sector across Fife.

About Us

Recyke-a-bike (formerly of Fallin Community Enterprises) has been in operation since 2005. We began as a small recycling social enterprise that quickly grew into a job club, using bike recycling as work experience for our members. Over the years we’ve seen a lot of growth and now offer various training services and cycling outreach work, in addition to our bike recycling and sales through our well stocked and modestly priced shop.

Purpose

Joining the Senior Management Team at Recyke-a-bike this role will manage and have supervision over all Recyke-a-bike Outreach projects and programmes, not including the shop and workshop. This includes schools’ delivery, employability programmes, community cycling projects and active travel initiatives. The post holder will ensure that projects are delivered efficiently, meet targets and budgets, and reflect Recyke-a-bike’s mission to use cycling to improve lives, promote sustainability and support inclusion.

The Outreach Manager is responsible for increasing Outreach-generated income. This includes developing and growing paid Outreach activity, such as corporate and for-profit partnerships, commissioned bookings, and identifying new opportunities for income generation across our Outreach services, helping to strengthen the organisation’s financial sustainability.

The Outreach Manager will lead the projects and schools’ delivery teams, ensuring consistent quality, staff support, and effective communication with staff, partners and funders. The role involves a balance of Outreach management and hands-on cycle training delivery, including occasional participation in cycle training sessions (typically 1-2 times a week in the busier periods).

• Founded in 2020 and incorporated as a Community Interest Company, ESAS has grown into a trusted and recognised voice. Our achievements include:
• Leading community research (Migrant Life in Scotland survey) on ESEA migrants’ access to services during the pandemic.
• Delivering emergency food, clothing, and IT support during COVID-19.
• Supporting wellbeing and inclusion through peer support groups, befriending, English lessons, and women’s sessions.
• Partnering with COSLA and the Scottish Government to support Hong Kong BN(O) migrants and improve access to services.
• Providing hate incident reporting and casework support through the national On Your Side service.
• Advocating for labour rights across the UK through the ESEA Migrant Alliance UK project funded by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.

The opportunity

We are seeking new Board Directors who share our commitment to justice, rights, and empowerment. As a Director, you will play a vital role in shaping strategy, strengthening governance, and ensuring our work has lasting impact.

Previous Board experience is not essential—we welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds, skills, and lived experience. We are particularly interested in candidates with knowledge or experience in:

• Governance and organisational leadership
• Finance (including an applicant for the Treasurer role)
• Fundraising and understanding of the NGO/funding landscape
• HR and compliance
• UK policy and systems that shape migrant and community wellbeing

Commitment

This is a voluntary, non-executive role (reasonable expenses reimbursed). The time commitment is around 29 hours per year, covering meetings, preparation, and occasional reviews. Meetings are mainly online, with one in-person meeting in Scotland annually. Every five years, Directors attend a Governance Development Weekend (the next in Jan/March 2026).
