People-centred in approach, you will be responsible for providing an exemplary ‘First Port of Call’ service in a hybrid virtual contact centre environment. You will respond to inbound and outbound contact, providing information and friendship to older people living in Scotland, their families and carers. You will provide cover and support to other telephony services within Age Scotland.

The post will be Scotland-based, a blend of office (Edinburgh-based) and home working. As a hybrid role the intention is that office based and any external facing work will constitute 40% of working time over each month. We are seeking up to two individuals with experience in financial management, project management/planning roles, or accountancy to support the effective governance of the Care and Repair Edinburgh (CRE) Board of Trustees and to act as a Trustee and Non-Executive Director of CRE.

INTRODUCTION

CRE is a voluntary organisation helping those over 60 years of age and/or anyone with a disability, to improve and repair their properties to enable them to live as independently and as safely as possible. CRE is a charity in its 40th Year, and limited company, governed by a Board of Directors. The CRE team are based at Causewayside House, 160 Causewayside, Edinburgh. The team consists of: Director, Operations Manager, Senior Administrator/Volunteer Coordinator, 3 Administrators, Joiner, Engineer, Electrician and a Handyperson. There are also approximately 20 volunteers who undertake small DIY jobs.

CRE offer the following services to anyone aged 60+ or anyone with a disability, who live in the City of Edinburgh Council tax area.

• Paid Handyperson

• Trade Referrals
• Volunteer Handyperson

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• To contribute actively to the work of CRE. Trustees are responsible for shaping and endorsing the strategic direction, setting overall policy, evaluating organisational performance and supporting the staff team to achieve their agreed goals and objectives.
• To safeguard the name, aims and the values of the organisation.
• To ensure that CRE takes steps to protect and manage the property of the charity including proper investment of charity funds.
• It is anticipated that the duties of Trustees are likely to take about 1 day per month and applicants must be able to accommodate this. The Board currently meets 4 times a year in Edinburgh: February, May, August and November.

These posts are not remunerated but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Trustees should not have any significant interest in any organisation that conflicts directly with the goals of CRE and all potential conflicts of interest should be declared, including at each Board meeting.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualities, skills and experience

Individuals with experience in financial management, project management/planning roles, or accountancy to support the effective governance of the Care and Repair Edinburgh (CRE)

• Able to demonstrate a commitment our vision statement: CRE helps older and vulnerable people to stay independent, comfortable, safe and secure in their own homes for as long as they want to and can.
• An ability to address key/difficult issues in safeguarding the above commitment.
• A clear link with Edinburgh – the community within which we offer our services.
• We want to build a diverse board and actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly female candidates and those from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities.

We also welcome candidates who do not have Boardroom experience. Full induction and training will be provided.
