Role

Café ReCharge is a Pay What You Can surplus food Café in Galashiels. We are a not-for-profit social enterprise providing a warm, welcoming venue that supports the needs of the local community. We use surplus supermarket produce to provide food for all, including those at risk of social isolation and food poverty, and operate as a meeting space for the whole community. We also offer outside catering, venue hire and evening events. We offer training, volunteering and work opportunities in an inclusive way that respects difference and diversity.

We are seeking to recruit an outgoing and highly-motivated Operations Manager with plenty of initiative who will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the café, staff and volunteers. This is a 3 year full time post funded by The National Lottery’s Improving Lives fund.

The post would include overseeing all operations within the kitchen and front of house and

  • to ensure all operations of the Cafe comply with appropriate food safety and health & safety legislation
  • to manage staff and volunteers, and develop their potential
  • to write rotas and plan training
  • to recruit and train a reliable team of volunteers
  • to support the social mission of the organisation by engaging with customers, community groups and updating social media

A combination of flexibility, enthusiasm, and excellent organisational skills are essential to this role. The successful applicant will have:

  • experience in the hospitality sector
  • ability to work front of house and in the kitchen
  • extensive experience in managing a staff team and/or supervising volunteers
  • be dynamic with the ability to problem solve

  • a commitment to develop skills in others
