Role

We are seeking a full-time support worker on a permanent basis to work with an active young man, providing support for him to live and thrive within a supported living setting.

Fred is a 25-year-old man with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. He lives in his own flat within a wider supported living community in the beautiful Pentland Hills.

Fred needs a motivated support worker who enjoys exploring outdoors. Fred enjoys music, dancing and playing on his iPad.

Fred has severe speech impairment and needs help with communication. It takes him time to process information and to speak. The ideal candidate would therefore be patient, motivated, calm and have a creative approach to help Fred reach his full potential. He needs stability and consistency in a peaceful environment to help him develop his life skills.

Fred needs an organised and structured busy day to keep him mentally stimulated and physically active. He works as part of a social enterprise, bagging up firewood to sell and preparing firewood to sell to the local community. He has a community job which he needs support to access. He needs encouragement and support to do his work and to develop his life skills both inside and beyond the community he lives in.

Candidates should have the following qualities and experience:

  • Experience of supporting people with autism
  • Experience in providing Behavioural Support
  • Experience of anxiety, distress, stress and challenging behaviour
  • Be a clear communicator and work as part of a small team
  • Have an understanding of community and shared supported living services
  • Being patient and empathetic
  • Enjoy the outdoors and being active
  • Having fun and be self-motivated
