About the role

We’re looking for an Accommodation Deputy Manager to join our Accommodation Team at Ciaran's House, Edinburgh.

We provide practical and emotional support to mitigate the impact of a cancer diagnosis, and support during their cancer journey via expert needs led interventions. Our Accommodation Service is a key member of the integrated Social Work Service within the Services and Impact Directorate, you will play a crucial role in providing a high quality and efficient service to children, young people and families diagnosed with cancer

We are recruiting a Deputy Accommodation Manager in Edinburgh. This role supports the accommodation service locally and across the UK. Our Deputy Accommodation Managers ensure the Home is a safe and welcoming environment for children and young people with cancer and their families. They provide an efficient and effective service in line with the organisation’s accommodation service specification.

Our organisation is committed to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. This role is subject to an Enhanced criminal record check. If successful in application, this role requires an enhanced criminal record check to be completed ahead of starting in the role, together with comprehensive reference checks. A person cannot commence in post without these safeguards. Applicants should be aware these may take time. What will I be doing?

As Deputy Manager, you will support the Accommodation Manager in the safe and efficient management of the Accommodation site, ensuring optimal use of available resources. You will help develop, deliver, and facilitate a Community Model approach within your locality, working with Social Care teams, charity partners, and local organisations to provide comprehensive support for families. You will also support the charity’s Brand and Income Generation initiatives aligned to delivering the community model.

• Experience in providing services to children and/or vulnerable families.
• Working experience in a social care, or similar setting.
• Experience of cleaning and hygiene standards.

Knowledge and skills

• Ability to act as an ambassador for the Charity’s cause within a community setting.
• Understanding of issues relating to childhood cancer, children and young people with disabilities or children and young people with life limiting conditions, including the impact of loss and grief on individuals.
• Ability to appropriately tailor both spoken and written communication with a range of stakeholders e.g. parents, children, team members and charity partners.
• Ability to coordinate support initiatives for the benefit of service users.
• Demonstrate good organisational and administration skills.
• Demonstrate strong research skills.
• Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
• Awareness of Health and Safety requirements.

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Deputy Manager to help oversee our holiday support service and develop improvements across our organisation.

This is an exciting time to join The Yard and play a key role in delivering and improving our specialist services for children and young people with additional support needs.

The Role

You will support the Children’s Services Manager in leading the day-to-day operations of the Holiday Support Service, providing direction to a team of Support Workers while liaising with parents & carers to maintain and review Personal Support Plans for each child.

During term-time, this post will involve additional duties in the delivery of our core services.

You will:

• Support the delivery of service in line with standards set by regulatory bodies (Care Inspectorate and SSSC)
• Support the engagement of children in creative play and the management of suitable activity plans for the different ages/stages of development and interests of children
• Provide effective support and direction to a team of support workers through motivation, supervision, and feedback
• Support the Children’s Services Manager to ensure compliance across the service and ensure the team receive training and guidance appropriate to their role

About You

We are looking for a Deputy Manager who is inspired by our ethos and is excited to bring their knowledge and experience to our specialised Holiday Support Service for children with complex medical needs.

You will have:

• Supervisory experience, including direct staff supervision, development and implementation of rotas
• Knowledge and experience of facilitating indoor and outdoor play opportunities and environments and leading recreational activities
• Experience of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities
• Excellent organisational skills and administrative abilities

Desirable:

• Leaderships skills and team building capacity
• Previous experience of improvement work within a childcare setting
• First Aid at Work certificate
• Experience of Moving and Handling, delivering personal care and supporting complex medical needs

The Yard is a Scottish charity offering adventure play, short breaks, training, and support for children and young people with additional support needs, and their families. We operate inclusive play centres, deliver outreach work, and run holiday and youth clubs. We aim to build supportive communities and promote understanding and inclusion for disabled children.

About Options Fife Lochwood Park

Aberlour Options Fife - Lochwood Park service, based in Kingseat, is a forever home for one young man who has complex needs. Our service is a safe space for not only our young man but for his family to spend meaningful time. Although there can be challenging behaviour, it is the small steps of progress that this young person makes daily that makes our work meaningful. We are looking for someone to join our small team, who is a patient and understanding person.

What we are looking for....

We are looking for a Young People’s Worker who will work 30 hours per week. You will work these hours as part of a residential rota including days, evenings, weekends and public holidays. Staff work on a 4-week rolling rota with 1 full weekend off, and a further Friday and Saturday off. Day staff can undertake occasional night cover and sleepovers, for which there is an additional sleepover payment of £67.

As a Young People’s Worker you will play a fundamental role in ensuring that our young person will have the best possible experience in working towards their objectives in line with their care plan, supporting them to progress within their individual outcomes. Whilst not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role, where the work we do has a demonstrable impact on our young person's progress.

Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical, personal, and emotional care for our young person.

We are looking for candidates who have a passion with working with young people with disabilities. It is desired but not essential that candidates hold a relevant qualification at an SCQF level 7 or above. Due to SSSC requirements you will be required to gain qualifications after starting with Aberlour.

About Options Residential Fife

Our Options Residential Fife service is a full-time, residential care home offering long-term residential care for children and young people with complex learning and physical disabilities. We provide quality living for those children and young people who can no longer live at home.

What we are looking for....

We are looking for 2 Young People’s Worker’s ( 24 hours per week and 36 hours per week) to become part of our family. At Aberlour we feel that every child has the right to flourish and is at the heart of everything we do. As a Young People’s Worker, you will play a fundamental role in ensuring that our young people are working towards their goals. Not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role. You will provide enabling support to ensure the highest level of physical, personal and emotional care to support your young people with different daily activities.

You will become part of a highly skilled and experienced team and will have a supported induction programme, with access to an extensive training programme which includes CALM training, Child Protection and Fire Safety.

Ideally, candidates will have social care experience and an understanding of complex needs and disability. You will hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example: SVQ3 Care plus an HNC) together with relevant experience of working with children or young people. You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with people affected by disability as well as an understanding of, and commitment to, young people’s rights.

Night shift hours start at 9pm and finish at 9 am. Shifts are scheduled on a rota basis issued in advance. Shifts will vary according to operational requirements. The role includes a combination of weekdays, weekends and public holidays.
