We are pleased to offer an opportunity to join our East Lothian service as an Independent Advocacy Worker. In this role, you will provide one-to-one independent advocacy to individuals aged 16 and over with learning disabilities and/or autism. You will also contribute to existing collective advocacy projects within East Lothian and support the development of new groups where need is identified.

As an Independent Advocacy Worker, you will support individuals to express their views, understand their rights, explore options and participate in decisions that affect their lives. The role includes working closely with the Service Coordinator to maintain accurate quarterly statistics and contribute to the production of service reports.

CAPS is looking for a new Collective Advocacy worker to add capacity to the work of this established collective advocacy project. The role is to ensure more people’s voices are heard by decision-makers locally and nationally. This post will increase access to Independent Collective Advocacy for people with mental health issues in Edinburgh. The group will continue to develop its own priorities by drawing on their experiences with a view to bringing about change and improving services.

This 3.5 day a week role will support and join the existing enthusiastic team of CAPS’ Collective Advocacy workers, who work across Lothian on eight different mental health related collective advocacy projects.

The role offers autonomy and flexibility. You should be friendly and approachable, with the ability to form trusting relationships with group members and colleagues. You First Advocacy provide an independent professional Advocacy service to a wide range of vulnerable adults in Renfrewshire, who require short-term issue-based advocacy, to address specific issues arising from health, community care or legal interventions. The service is provided by paid staff and trained volunteers.

Our Vision is a Renfrewshire where people are supported and empowered to express their own needs and make their own decisions.

Our Mission is to provide Independent Human Rights based Advocacy support to adults living in Renfrewshire. Through our Advocate’s knowledge and expertise, we aim to empower individuals who seek help to have their voice heard, to express their needs, to make informed decisions and to have their rights and interests protected.

This post will contribute effectively to the You First Advocacy Service and will do so, by providing dedicated Advocacy support for people affected by drug or alcohol use, as part of YFA’s operational team.

• The post holder will be required to clearly show an understanding of the concept of Advocacy for people affected by drug or alcohol use and associated issues.
• An awareness of individual rights, objectivity and empathy will be required.
• The post holder will be required to demonstrate knowledge of the Scottish Government’s National Rights, Respect and Recovery Strategy.
• A mature ability to challenge individuals/organisations on behalf of the Service User, without recourse to confrontation is essential.

This is an exciting and challenging post for a person who supports social justice and the rights of vulnerable individuals. It is essential that you have knowledge and experience of Addictions, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and other generic client groups. A knowledge of advocacy is also essential. You should have excellent interpersonal skills and self-motivated.
