About the Role

As Treasurer, you’ll provide financial oversight, guidance and governance at board level. You’ll work closely with the Centre Director and Finance Officer to ensure the organisation remains financially healthy, compliant, and able to plan sustainably.

This is not a bookkeeping role — day-to-day accounting is already managed inhouse. Instead, we are seeking someone who can offer strategic insight, clarity and assurance around finances and risk.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the organisation’s financial governance and ensure compliance with OSCR (Scottish Charity Regulator) requirements.
• Review management accounts, budgets, and financial reports before board meetings.
• Support the Director in preparing the annual trustees’ report and liaising with independent examiners/auditors.
• Advise on financial risks, sustainability, reserves, and long term financial planning.
• Contribute to strategic decisions at Board level, including capital planning and funding strategy.
• Champion best practice in charity finance and support the development of internal financial processes.

• Accountants (qualified or part qualified)

• Bookkeepers with strong financial governance experience
• Individuals with charity finance knowledge
• People with a passion for community arts who bring confidence working with numbers

Essential Attributes

• Confidence reading financial statements and budgets
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non financial board members
• An interest in charity governance and organisational sustainability
• Integrity, judgement, and commitment to the organisation’s values

Desirable (but not essential)

• Experience with charity finance or SCIO structures
• Understanding of capital projects or long term organisational planning
• Interest in circular economy, sustainability, or community development (aligned with our values)

Time Commitment

• Quarterly board meetings (evenings or hybrid, with some flexibility)
• Occasional sub meetings with Director/finance team
• Approximately 4–6 hours per month
• Minimum one year commitment preferred

Appointment of Board Members to the Scottish Library and Information Council

The Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) is seeking to appoint new members to its Board. The appointments are for three years and will run from November 2026.

Information about the Scottish Library and Information Council

SLIC is the independent advisory body to the Scottish Government on library and information related matters. It is a registered charity and an independent company. It is also a membership organisation representing the interests of public, academic, FE College and special interest libraries within Scotland. SLIC is responsible for leading on the national strategy for public libraries and school libraries.

Board Responsibilities

The Board meets four times a year in addition to the AGM. Board members are expected to serve on a sub-committee which can involve a commitment of up to another three days.

The Board provides strategic direction and oversight. Major policy decisions are made at Board level. The decisions of the Board are actioned through the Chief Executive and senior management team of the organisation. As Board members are directors of the organisation applicants must:

• be at least 16 years old.
• not be an undischarged bankrupt.
• not be a disqualified director.

Please note the appointments are on a voluntary basis, however reasonable out of pocket expenses will be paid.

The Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) Board is seeking a new Chair who is prepared to be a strong public advocate for the library sector in Scotland alongside the Chief Executive, has a good understanding of what effective governance looks like and is committed to assisting SLIC’s management in the delivery of its strategy. This presents a great opportunity to lead the Board of one of Scotland’s major cultural institutions.

There is a strong working relationship between the Chair, the Board and the Chief Executive at SLIC. In recent years, SLIC has been able to take major strides forward because it has benefitted from a strong management team, a clear strategy and a highly supportive Board.

SLIC was formed in 1991 and provides a leadership focus for Scottish library and information services. We lead development in the library sector, monitor standards of provision and promote development. Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is seeking candidates for a new role within the Fundraising Team.

The Individual Giving Officer will help our teams across our visited sites optimise donated income from visitors and supporters. If you love Scotland’s history and want to ensure that it is protected, understood and enjoyed by everyone, this role will give you a chance to make that possible for generations to come.

By using your skills with people, fundraising and marketing, you will help us understand our audiences and increases our philanthropic income from across Scotland. This is a new role that will build on our work to enable donations across our visited sites, via our website and to become ready for fundraising appeals to a wide audience.

You will be engaging with knowledgeable and passionate colleagues, visitors and supporters to help keep Scotland’s story going.

About the role

The primary focus of the role is to advance fundraising from individuals through a number of channels including donations at our properties in care, website driven donations, future appeals and campaigns. In addition to building on existing income streams, the Officer will help identify new audiences and channels with the small fundraising team.

Over the last 3 years the Fundraising Team has trialled several options to enable donations at our historic sites across Scotland (from world famous castles to remote archaeological sites). It is now time to scale up our operations and ensure that our service to colleagues and donors is all that it can be.

With the launch of new websites and a new CRM system, this is a great time to join the team to maximise our reach to potential supporters and see results. You will work alongside Operations, Finance and Marketing teams to ensure excellent service to colleagues and an inspiring donor journey.

About you

You will be passionate about the power of philanthropy and have experience in fundraising or marketing for income generation. You will take pride in working constructively with colleagues in other areas to find the right pathway to enabling donations. Your experience of working with relevant data to help identify and monitor fundraising opportunities will contribute not only to Individual Giving activities but the wider areas of major donations and appeals. This will require excellent communications skills for face-to-face conversations and fundraising messages on digital platforms. You will be an organised team worker committed to delivering excellent service and someone who can scan the horizon to see the next opportunity. You will be happy to travel across Scotland.
