The First Contact Advice Worker plays a key role within Strath Union’s Advice Hub, ensuring students receive a welcoming, supportive, and effective first interaction when seeking advice and support. The postholder will provide high-quality front-line assistance, helping students to understand their options, access accurate information, and navigate appropriate support within the Union, the University, or external services.

In addition to triage and signposting, the role includes responsibility for managing a defined caseload under the guidance of senior Advice Hub staff. The postholder will support students to take informed next steps, assist with advice processes, and ensure cases are handled sensitively, confidentially, and in line with agreed procedures. The role contributes to the effective day-to-day running of the Advice Hub, including restocking supplies and supporting outreach activity such as campaigns, stalls, and events to engage directly with students.

The Advice Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for Strath Union’s Advice Hub, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, safe, and student-centred advice service. Working on a part-time basis, the role focuses on oversight, prioritisation, quality assurance, and the professional supervision of staff delivering advice and casework, rather than day-to-day operational delivery.

The postholder is responsible for line managing the Advice Hub team, providing professional supervision, guidance on complex cases, and ensuring robust advice standards are consistently applied. The Advice Manager plays a key role in shaping service priorities, managing risk, and ensuring the Advice Hub operates effectively within available capacity.

The role sits within Strath Union’s Management Team and contributes to wider organisational planning, particularly in relation to student welfare, wellbeing, and support. Given the part-time nature of the post, the Advice Manager will work closely with colleagues to ensure clear delegation, effective communication, and appropriate escalation arrangements are in place.

Getting Better Together Ltd (GBT) is a community centred health initiative which was established in 2000 with the aim of promoting the health & wellbeing of residents living in North Lanarkshire including the Fortissat Ward, Shotts, Springhill, Dykehead, Stane, Torbothie, Harthill, Eastfield, Salsburgh, Allanton/Hartwood. At the heart of Shotts, GBT's Healthy Living Centre was established twenty-three years ago.

Since its creation 2000, GBT has become a leader in the arena of community led health improvement with a record of success delivering high quality, effective community-led health improvement services. It is a successful, respected organisation widely recognised by statutory, voluntary sector partners and the individuals we work with.

At GBT, sports, exercise, healthy eating, and other community participatory activities aren’t just about improving health, they’re turning people’s lives around, transforming stereotypes and giving our community opportunities they were previously excluded from.

We now have vacancy for a full time (35 Hrs) Cycle Development Officer. The main aim of the role is to oversee and develop the cycling programme at GBT. The Trackside Bikes Training and Repair Centre programme delivers a range of cycling services including bike repairs, servicing, loans, retail, and education. Alongside this, the postholder will play a key role in delivering outdoor cycling to a range of multidisciplinary groups across North Lanarkshire, working with people of all ages from the most deprived communities.

A core element of the role is working directly with disadvantaged children and young people, including those with behavioural needs, Additional Support Needs (ASN), and those who may face barriers to engagement in traditional education or training settings. The postholder will be expected to provide a supportive, and inclusive approach that helps young people build confidence, skills, and positive relationships with learning.

Acting as an ambassador for cycling and active travel in North Lanarkshire, the postholder will work closely with the staff team, Getting Better Together, key local stakeholders, schools, and the wider community to promote the benefits of cycling, active travel, and skills development.

As the Project Officer, you will support schools across East Lothian to increase active travel, such as walking, wheeling and cycling. Your work will help pupils, staff and local communities travel in healthier and more sustainable ways.

In this role, you will plan and deliver a range of activities, events and lessons. These activities are designed to encourage people to choose active travel when going to school or work. You will spend time working with teachers, parents, pupils and community members to make these activities successful.

You will also work closely with Walk Wheel Cycle Trust Volunteers. Part of your role is to give them clear guidance and support so that everyone understands their tasks and feels confident carrying them out. Alongside this, you will contribute ideas and feedback to help develop the plans and goals of the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust.

You will communicate clearly with schools and partners, making sure information is simple and easy to understand. You will organise your tasks in a structured way and can ask for team support whenever it is helpful. You will use accessible materials and inclusive approaches to help people understand the benefits of active travel. Your aim is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone feels able to take part.

What You’ll Be Doing

• You will deliver behaviour change and engagement projects that encourage active travel.
• You will plan, organise and run educational sessions, practical activities and events that help people make positive changes in how they travel.
• You will build effective working relationships with schools, community groups and local authorities to support these projects.
• You will recruit, guide and support volunteers who help with the work of the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, making sure they feel informed and confident.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys delivering fun activities with children and adults, who thrives outdoors, with a flexible approach to working independently and in teams.

About you

We’re looking for someone who has experience and understanding in the areas listed below. You don’t need to meet every requirement — if you feel you’d be a good fit, we encourage you to apply.

• At least 3 years of experience working with community groups. This can be paid work or voluntary work.
• An understanding of Active Travel (walking, wheeling, cycling) and the challenges faced by communities who experience inequality or barriers.
• Knowledge of safeguarding principles and how to follow safe working practices with children, young people and adults.
• Experience leading group workshops and presenting information clearly, both online and in person.
