Who we are

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research.

This is an exciting opportunity for a permanent role which will work across both our Registered Day Service and Community Support Services. The post holder will work closely with the Commissioned Service Lead to continue the work on shaping and delivering a service which meets the needs of people living with dementia and their carers across the Western Isles.

You will lead our commissioned high quality, therapeutic, Dementia specific registered day service, Solas, when the Commissioned Service Lead is off duty. This will include responsibility of promoting the services with key local stakeholders within Health and Social Care and other relevant organisations. The role will support Day Service Practitioners as well as managing the referral, assessment and personal outcome planning process. You will ensure safe practice and delivery of high-quality, person-centred therapeutic services, ensuring practice complies with Alzheimer Scotland’s policies and health and safety legislation. You will support with evidencing, reviewing and continually improving the quality of the services and will proactively participate in internal audit and Care Inspectorate inspections. Evidencing that services meet Alzheimer Scotland’s Quality Guarantees, Scotland’s Health and Social Care standards, Health and Safety Regulations and other quality frameworks including those of the Care Inspectorate where relevant.

This role will also deliver support within the community providing advice and information. You will plan and deliver a programme of group-based carer peer support and therapeutic groups. You will be the first point of contact for people living with dementia, their families, and carers and support them to navigate their way through the health and social care system.

What you will have

The successful candidate will have experience of managing a team in a social care, health or other similar setting or be able to demonstrate a clear knowledge and understanding of the key principles and good practice of effectively managing and leading a team.

You will have knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care Standards and SSSC codes of practice and the Care Inspectorate and their role in registered services. Alongside this, an understanding and knowledge of dementia, mild cognitive impairment and Brain Health and experience of working with or supporting people living with dementia and their families is required.

The successful candidate will have a recognised professional qualification in health, social work or related field, to SCQF Level 7 (SVQ 3)

The People and Culture Assistant provides essential administrative and coordination support across all areas of HR, wellbeing, and organisational culture.

Working closely with the People and Wellbeing Officer and People and Culture Manager, this role ensures that people processes run smoothly and that staff across the organisation receive a consistent, positive, and values-driven experience. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone looking to develop their career in the HR or people-focused work within a supportive, purpose-led charity.

Key Responsibilities:

HR Administration and Coordination

• Provide high quality and administrative support across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, changes to employment, and leavers
• Maintain accurate and confidential HR records and systems, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation
• Assistant in the preparation of employment documentation, including advertising roles, scheduling interviews, and corresponding with candidates
• Administer payroll changes, benefits, and absence records in collaboration with the Finance Team.

Wellbeing, Engagement, and Culture

• Support the coordination and delivery of wellbeing and engagement activities such aswellbeing days, surveys, and awareness campaigns
• Assist with internal communications relating to people, wellbeing, and culture updates
• Help promote a positive and inclusive organisational culture aligned with the charity’svalues
• Collate feedback from staff engagement activities and support the monitoring ofparticipation rates and feedback trends

Learning and Development

• Coordinate logistics for internal and external training, including booking venues, managing attendance, and updating training records
• Support with the evaluation of learning and development activities
• Maintain accurate records of professional development activity and compliance training

General Support

• Provide administrative support to the People and Culture Team, including scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and managing shared inboxes
• Assist with data collection for reporting and audits
• Handle routine queries from staff with professionalism, confidentiality, and care
• Contribute to continuous improvement in people processes, ensuring they are efficient and user-friendly

Essential Criteria:

• Experience in administration or office support, ideally within HR, people, or a charity environment
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new systems
• A positive, proactive, and collaborative approach to work
• Commitment to the values and mission of Change Mental Health

Desirable Criteria:

• Working towards or interested in studying for a CIPD qualification
• Experience supporting wellbeing, engagement, or inclusion initiatives
• Understanding of HR or people processes
• Awareness and empathy for mental health and wellbeing issues

Working as part of a small, collaborative People and Culture Team, you will provide practical HR advice and support to managers and staff, lead on wellbeing and engagement activities, and help ensure our people policies and practices reflect our values and commitment to fairness and inclusion.

As the People and Wellbeing Officer, you will work with a large amount of autonomy and should be confident in being able to multitask, balance competing priorities, and have an excellent eye for detail. You will develop innovative ideas and solutions to streamline and improve operational processes and be responsible for providing an efficient and effective HR operational service across the Charity so that our staff can learn, develop, and grow in an environment that works for them.

Key Responsibilities

Operational HR

• Provide first-line advice and guidance to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation
• Support employee relations casework, including absence management, performance, disciplinary, and grievance processes
• Lead on the coordination of recruitment, onboarding, and induction to ensure a positive staff experience
• Maintain accurate HR records and ensure compliance with data protection and governance standards
• Contribute to the review and continuous improvement of HR policies and processes

Wellbeing, Culture, and Inclusion

• Champion wellbeing and inclusion across the organisation through proactive communication, campaigns, and events
• Support the delivery of the charity’s People and Culture Strategy, embedding wellbeing and engagement into everyday practice
• Lead on employee wellbeing activities such as staff surveys, wellbeing days, and awareness campaigns
• Support the People and Culture Manager in developing and monitoring staff engagement initiatives and feedback mechanisms
• Promote the organisation’s values and a positive culture of respect, collaboration, and transparency

Organisational Development

• Support leading and development coordination, tracking participation, and evaluating impact
• Contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion (EDI) action plans and reporting
• Assist with the analysis of people data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
• Support internal communications relating to HR, wellbeing, and people updates

Essential Criteria

• CIPD Level 3 or above (or working towards Level 5) or equivalent professional experience
• Proven experience in a HR or people-focused role with knowledge of HR best practice and employment legislation
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport across all levels
• Experience in supporting employee relations casework
• Demonstrated commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, and equity in the workplace
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
• Skilled IT user with experience in HR systems and Microsoft Office

• Experience in a charity, public, or values-led organisation
