Role

The Human Rights and Race Equality Policy Officer at BEMIS Scotland plays a critical role in advancing racial equality and upholding human rights across Scotland. This position requires in-depth knowledge of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) and a strong understanding of how race is situated within the Equality Act 2010.

The Officer must possess excellent communication skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders—ranging from grassroots community rights holders to the Scottish Government, Police Scotland, NHS, and other public sector duty bearers. Confidence and initiative are essential, as the role demands the ability to clearly articulate evidence-based positions that safeguard and strengthen human rights protections.

Working at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and community engagement, the Officer must champion inclusive practices and ensure that racial equality remains central to Scotland’s human rights agenda. This role is vital to ensuring that marginalised voices are heard and acted upon.
