We’re looking for a talented, experienced youth worker to join LDT and support young people to develop in ways that are meaningful to them. The role will support the planning and development of youth and community support across LDT activity including our Allotments growing/ greenspace skills programme, and wider events and universal youth work as required.

The Youth Development Worker will play a strong role in planning and delivering engaging youth work sessions across the LDT Community programme and for ensuring young people are engaged across our organisation.

The post holder will act as a critical relationship builder, as needed by linking in with families and referral partners.

You will have experience of providing youth work activity to people in communities and be passionate about supporting people to improve and enhance their lives.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop activities that respond to local needs in conjunction with the views of our local community members. A key part of this role will be to develop genuine relationships within our communities and create opportunities for individuals to develop their knowledge and skills. By empowering them to take positive steps which will benefit their own health and wellbeing and that of the wider community.

Due to the secondment of the current post-holder, we are recruiting a Young Persons Support Worker (Routes) to join our team and provide 12 month secondment cover. (Any further extension is dependent on funding).

Are you looking for a role where you can truly make a difference to young people’s lives? Routes is our youth work programme which launched in 2019. We support young people in East and West Dunbartonshire aged 12-26 years who are affected by family alcohol and drug use. You will play an integral part in creating a supportive and nurturing environment for young people, helping them to thrive in all aspects of their lives.

The post is predominantly located in East Dunbartonshire but will involve travel throughout both East and West Dunbartonshire for weekly groups. Some home working is involved. Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential. There will be a close working relationship with young people, schools and other local partner agencies in East Dunbartonshire. This post will be part of Scottish Families’ staff team and be managed by the Senior Family Support Development Officer – Young People.

The post-holder will support the delivery of Routes; ensure that young people engaged with the project are properly safeguarded and supported; co-facilitate a range of group activities with the young people; support young people to develop coping skills and strategies to help reduce the negative impact that other’s substance use may have on them; transport young people to and from groups, trips, and activities; plan, organise and facilitate trips and activities; and support young people to source and apply for Education, Training and Employment opportunities.

Applicants should be educated to HNC level, vocational qualification (level 3) or relevant experience; with an understanding of the emotional and developmental issues for children and young people. Experience of community-based youth work experience via employment or as a volunteer, and experience of delivering group work activities, are an advantage. We are seeking someone who is able to build rapport, positively engage and support young people; with the ability to listen and talk to young people from differing abilities, understanding and backgrounds. You should be available to work flexible hours, including some evenings (rarely beyond 7pm). Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential.

Glasgow Association for Mental Health is one of the principal providers of community mental health services in Greater Glasgow. We are commissioned by Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership to deliver a Compassionate Distress Response Service (CDRS) for people in distress who do not require medical or clinical intervention.

We would like to recruit for our Young People Compassionate Distress Response Service (YPCDRS). This service operates 5 days a week Monday to Friday 9am - 4.30pm.

This service operates from our GAMH Head Office, St Andrews by the Green, 33 Turnbull Street, Glasgow G1 5PR.

Key Skills:

Good communication skills to be able to work effectively with referrers and individuals using the service. Compassionate listening, be able to alleviate individual’s feelings of distress. Be highly resourceful in supporting individuals i.e., identifying coping strategies, self-management techniques and onward referral where appropriate. Be confident and competent to apply risk assessment, safety planning, and escalation processes where appropriate. SVQ 3 or equivalent or willingness towards achieving this qualification is essential.
