Background and Job Description
Mikeysline is a Highland-based mental health awareness and suicide prevention charity established in 2015. We provide support through our evening text-based services and on a 1:1 basis at our Hives (face to face, telephone and online) and in secondary schools in Highland and Moray. We also offer a range of other services, including Hive on the Road.
Hive on the Road, our mobile Hive, was launched in February 2024. To date, our fully converted Ford Transit Van has travelled to locations throughout the Highlands and Moray, as well as taking trips to Orkney. We are delighted to be developing this project further in 2025, with a particular emphasis on building connections in the North West of the Highland area (including the Western Isles).
One of the aims of the Hive on the Road project is to provide accessible mental health support across the Highlands, Islands and Moray, in areas not yet reached by other face-to-face services. The main body of the Hive on the Road vehicle has been transformed into a welcoming and safe space to facilitate mental health support sessions as needed. As well as providing support, Hive on the Road is a vital tool for raising awareness of Mikeysline services in new communities, reducing stigma surrounding mental health and accessing support.
We are looking for a Development Manager to join our team, with a particular focus on developing and raising awareness of Mikeysline and Hive on the Road, across the North West Highlands. The successful candidate for this role will build enduring relationships with businesses, organisations and communities to develop our understanding of the mental health support needs in rural areas. In particular, we are keen to collaborate with, and learn from, local crofting communities and those in rural industries, including forestry, fisheries and agriculture.
The Development Manager will be responsible for identifying potential stakeholders/collaborators across the area and planning future visits/activities/events for the Hive on the Road project. The post-holder will also have a key role in recruiting volunteers to support our delivery across the North West Highlands. It is expected that the successful candidate for this role will spend part of the week travelling with the vehicle (subject to business need), with the support of volunteers.
Person Specification:
This is a key post within the Mikesyline management team and we are looking for an exceptional leader to support the development and ongoing expansion of our Hive on the Road project.
You will be a dynamic and experienced manager with a background of working in mental health services and/or have significant knowledge of mental health issues. You will have experience in service planning, delivery and evaluation, with a focus on achieving measurable outcomes.
You will be a skilled communicator, with the confidence to liaise with people at all levels and the ability to collaborate and develop strong relationships with key partners. You will be creative, thrive on working both within a team and on your own specific areas of work, and have highly tuned time management and organisational skills.
You will be proactive in your approach to this role, with the confidence and experience needed to approach new potential stakeholders and build lasting, fruitful relationships. You will be able to make solution-focused decisions quickly, using your own initiative. You will need to be flexible. Travelling to Hive on the Road locations may include longer days and occasional overnight stays.
Training will provided by Mikeysline and there will be ongoing learning and development opportunities available, but we are looking for demonstrable confidence and skills in the above areas from the start.
Due to the nature of Mikeysline work, the postholder will work with awareness of the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection, ensuring adherence to best practice and following Mikeysline’s policies at all times. Good IT skills and a full, clean UK driving license are essential for this role.

Are you a creative and motivated individual with the passion and drive to support people with a recent diagnosis of dementia to live well in their community?
If so, you can be part of a National Team of Post Diagnostic Support Link Workers (PDS Link Workers) providing high-quality, person-centred support to people living with dementia and their families for a minimum of a year following diagnosis in line the Scottish Government’s minimum guarantee.
The aim of the PDS National Service is to enable people to live well with dementia and is centred around Alzheimer Scotland's 5 pillar model so that people move on to a period of supported self- management.
The model includes understanding the illness and coming to terms with the diagnosis, peer support, connecting and maintaining links with their community along with planning for future care and decision making to develop an outcome focused plan to support their future hopes, desires and aspirations.
Supporting our Skye and Lochalsh Highland locality, the post will be based within the Community Mental Health Team at Tigh Na Drochaid Resource Centre, Portree . Alzheimer Scotland’s PDS Link Workers are required to be effective team workers and have the skills to build and maintain relationships with colleagues both within Alzheimer Scotland, the NHS and other stakeholders.
Skills in using digital platforms are essential as we use a blended approach to support people that involve some virtual meetings and on-line groups.
Applicants must hold a recognised relevant professional qualification, have a good understanding of dementia and how it affects people and their families along with excellent communication skills, a warm flexible approach, combined with skills in empathy and relationship building.
In addition, you should have skills and knowledge at the Enhanced Level of the Promoting Excellence Framework or be able to evidence you are working towards its completion.

Change Mental Health is the lead partner in the Highlands for the Scottish Government’s Distress Brief Intervention project (DBI). The DBI is a Scotland-wide pilot project, testing a ground-breaking approach to address the emotional and psychological pain experienced by people in distress.
Working in partnership with frontline services, including Police, Ambulance service, Primary Care and mental health teams, the project provides rapid referral to focused, short-term support, with the option of onward referral to longer-term support if required. As the National Programme lead you will play a significant role in this major, high profile Scottish Government project. Additionally, you will lead on the development of new national programmes/ services and oversee the running of them.
About the Role
As National Programme Lead, you will oversee and lead all Change Mental Health DBI Teams and assist in the development of the DBI programme on behalf of Change Mental Health. You will have responsibility to ensure that our work to support people in distress is delivered to a high standard and within the framework agreed with the Scottish Government and the DBI Programme Board. You will provide visible leadership to staff and be a strong role model and leader in building a positive and supportive culture as part of your role.
You will work closely with senior colleagues in Change Mental Health and in a wide range of statutory and third sector agencies to ensure that the Distress Brief Intervention, and other national programmes of work/ services continue to deliver an innovative service in a compassionate and connected way. With partnership working at the forefront, you will develop the services while working closely with key partners, in liaison with the appropriate Heads of Service and the Director of Services.
The National Programme Lead will work across several areas of Scotland including, but not limited to, Highland, Argyll & Bute, Dumfries and Galloway, Western Isles and CMH National office in Edinburgh.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee all DBI services provided by Change Mental Health, including responsibility for all quality and reporting aspects of delivery.
- Lead on the roll out and expansion of DBI Services within Change Mental Health areas.
- Lead on discussions with partners around the future of existing DBI projects, including funding opportunities and expansion of current pathways.
- Oversee management of the rota system, ongoing development of the Change Mental Health DBI Hub and DBI Managers meetings.
- Develop and oversee new national services ensuring a robust quality framework is in place to support the best practice and continuous improvement within the service.
- Ensure Change Mental Health Policies and Procedures are implemented and understood including Safeguarding and Health and Safety.
- Develop and maintain excellent partnerships with statutory and third sector agencies and partners in all areas.
- Monitor existing funding contracts and highlight any challenges around these within appropriate timeframes
- Leading on local and national groups relevant to the National programmes e.g. DBI Programme Board meetings and local implementation groups
- Providing line management, including support & supervision to Project Managers / Team Leaders both virtually and face to face.
- Provide out-of-hours support to national programme teams on a rota-basis
- Be part of the Management Team for National services and work closely with peers to provide guidance and support, as required
Personal Specification:
- Experience of setting up and managing programmes/ services in a third sector setting.

Who we are
Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for supporting people living with dementia to achieve good outcomes using a range of therapeutic interventions, resources and activities as appropriate. Working as part of the Registered and Commissioned Services team you will have responsibility for ensuring that services are of the highest quality and meet Alzheimer Scotland’s vision for unique therapeutic, highly person-centred support.
You will work with the wider team and Day Services Manager to ensure safe practice and delivery of high-quality, person-centred, therapeutic Registered and Commissioned Services, ensuring practice complies with Alzheimer Scotland’s policies. You will contribute to evidencing, reviewing and continually improving the quality of the services and will participate in internal audit and Care Inspectorate inspections.
You may operate within a building-based Day Care. At times, this will involve working without supervision in the absence of the Day Services Manager.
You will work with the wider team to evidence that services meet Alzheimer Scotland’s Quality Guarantees, Scotland’s Health and Social Care standards and other quality frameworks including those of the Care Inspectorate where relevant. This includes ensuring that the activities and support offered meet the identified personal outcomes of those attending the services.
What you’ll have
The successful candidate will have a good understanding and/or experience of working with or supporting people living with dementia and their families. This will include an understanding of the benefit of high quality, evidence based therapeutic activity, ongoing evaluation, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care Standards and SSSC codes of practice and the Care Inspectorate and their role in registered services.
