Aberlour Options Moray is a community-based service for children/young people with learning disabilities offering residential, respite short breaks, family-based care and community support matched with the individual needs of every young person.

What we are looking for...

As someone who has built up experience working in residential child care, you will have the confidence to guide and direct the provision of care to the children and young people in the service. You will play a pivotal role, working in partnership with parents and families to meet the emotional and physical needs of children and young people with complex disabilities.

When on shift, you will play a lead role, mentoring and supporting staff and being a role model, delivering excellence in the services we provide. You will assist in assessing, planning and delivering services, taking responsibility for ensuring that assessment and interventions are prepared, monitored and evaluated.

Engaging positively with children, young people and families you will plan and implement appropriate support for the children and young people. Sensitive and accurate reporting is a key responsibility and so you will have good written communication skills and the ability to learn how to use effectively, Aberlour’s recording system: Dynamics.

This role offers the opportunity to consolidate and build on your experience combined with the ability to enhance your skills and knowledge through training, for example, in Dyadic Developmental Practice.

As part of the management team, you will play an active role in ensuring that shift duties are delegated and completed in accordance with service guidance.

Lead practitioners do 75% of their role on shift and 25% of their time working alongside the Assistant Service Manager for short breaks on operational tasks and standardising practice. Late shifts are 2pm to 10pm. Early shifts are 7.30am to 2.30pm. Overnight sleep ins are part of the role, alongside an awake member of night staff. Paperwork days will be 9 to 5 office hours.

About Options Fife Housing Support

At Aberlour we listen to understand what our young people want and need within our local area. Our Options Fife Housing Support service in Glenrothes supports young people with learning disabilities and/or autism to live and thrive within the local community.

This service will be home to 4 young people aged 16 plus who will all have their own individual flat. Our rota has been drafted to suit the needs of the young people.

What we are looking for....

We are looking for a part time (25 hours, working 2 x 12.5 hour shifts per week) Young People’s Workers to join our team. You will play a fundamental role in our young people’s lives to ensure that they get the best possible experience whilst working towards goals in their care plan. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical and emotional care, supporting our young people in their daily living and within the local community.

If you have an interest in working with young people, we would like to hear from you. Ideally, candidates will have social care experience, understanding of autism, complex needs and disability. You will hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example: SVQ3 Care plus an HNC) together with relevant experience of working with children or young people. You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with people affected by disability as well as an understanding of, and commitment to, young people’s rights.

Job Purpose

Provide direct services to babies, children, families, carers or adults (in an individual or group basis) maintaining professional practice standards as outlined to legislation and consistent with NSPCC standards and guidance.

Hold case accountability for a number of cases, some of which may be complex, ensuring all safe guarding practice and case recording conforms to NSPCC standards and guidance. Provide professional advice to internal and external partners.

Engage positively and respectfully with all partners agencies to serve the best interests of babies, children and families.

Plan and deliver services and contribute to their evaluation and ensure that issues of diversity and inclusion are identified and addressed in accordance with equal opportunity practices.

Develop and maintain professional relationships and work in partnership with other agencies in order to deliver effective services and attend a range of internal and external meetings as required.

Actively prepare for and participate in supervision, team meetings, briefings and training events and contribute to the development of learning materials or other resources.

Take responsibility for developing and improving your own professional knowledge and skills and contribute to policy development within the organisation.

Work with fundraising staff to promote the work of the team and the organisation to various audiences including supporters, fundraisers and volunteers.

Support colleagues through co-working, mentoring or critical appraisal and supervise students as appropriate in line with agency policy.

Person specification

• A recognised social work qualification and registration with the relevant social care county within the UK.
• Experience of direct prevention work with children and their families and proven ability in identifying risk and initiating child protection interventions, informed by a good knowledge of best practice, research and legislation.
• Experience and proven ability of working in a way that reflects a child centered approach and an understanding of children's rights, participation, needs, best interests and safeguarding practice.
• Ability to plan appropriate direct work and evaluate effectiveness.
• Evidence of an ability to develop and maintain professional relationships including with other child protection agencies and supporters and experience of effective multi-agency working.
• Experience and proven ability to champion equality, diversity, and inclusive practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and the ability to present the NSPCC to internal and external audiences.

About Aberlour Options Fife - Respite and Outreach

Options Fife Respite and Outreach provides a range of flexible support through outreach and overnight short breaks at weekends, evenings and school holidays to children and young people with complex learning disabilities and autism. We offer a high-quality child centred service providing positive and enabling experiences for the young people, supporting them through the challenges and complexities that enable them to work towards their individual outcomes and personal goals. We work closely with families and other professionals in providing support tailored around the child’s plan.

What we are looking for....

We are looking to recruit a Young People’s Worker to work 20 hours per week. You will play a fundamental role in ensuring that the young people you work with have the best possible experience in working towards their objectives in line with their care plan, supporting children to progress within their individual outcomes. Whilst not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role, where the work we do has a demonstrable impact on each young person's progress. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical, personal, and emotional care. We support young people who have epilepsy, need personal care and need gastrostomy feeding. Aberlour, in conjunction with NHS, provides all staff with training.

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for working with young people with disabilities. It is desired but not essential that candidates hold a relevant qualification at an SCQF level 7 or above. Due to SSSC requirements you may be required to gain qualifications after starting with Aberlour.
