Role

We are looking for a full-time permanent support worker to work with an individual in his home, providing 2:1 and 1:1 support within a shared supported living setting. This role involves daily personal care, hoisting, medication administration and support with all aspects of the individual’s weekly routine.

I am a 56-year-old man with cerebral palsy and a learning disability. I live in my own flat within a busy supported living environment. I am an active and well-known member of my community, attending two different day services on site - the Printmaking studio and the Pentland group (woodworking). I enjoy classical music, watching sports and attending church. I have mobility issues and use a wheelchair and ‘motability’ vehicle.

I am looking for someone to provide support with getting out and about activities like going to my day services, going to concerts and generally further developing my core life-skills. I am a friendly and cheerful individual and really benefit from 1:1 support and focussed attention although I also need personal space at times. I understand most things but require clear and simple communication.

The ideal candidate for this role would:

• Have experience working with people with learning disabilities.

• Be reasonably physically fit and able to provide support with personal care and hoisting.

• Be patient and empathic.

• Be a clear communicator and able to work as part of a small team.

• Have an understanding of community and shared supported living services.

• Have a flexible and adaptable personality.

• Be able to embrace working in a vibrant community setting.

The hours of work are variable requires evening and weekend work. Shifts range between 7.30am and 10pm with occasional sleepovers required. The ability to drive is useful but not essential.
