The Super Power Agency is a creative charity who support children and young people to write their story.

We are looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Directors to help us with our ambitious plans for the future.

This is an unpaid position with a time commitment of four in person board meetings a year (in the evenings 5-7pm) and monthly meetings with the MD (can be online)

Who are we?

The Super Power Agency works with Scotland’s most disadvantaged and under-resourced young people to increase writing skills. Our creative writing workshops make learning fun, and our writing mentors instil confidence. We encourage pupils to put pen to paper, build their writing skills and express themselves .

Founded in 2016, the SPA has worked with more than 5,000 young people. The organisation follows a tried and tested model started in America, 826 National, which has since been adopted by more than 50 organisations worldwide.

We have worked with more than 50 primary and high schools in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dunfermline, Musselburgh, Peebles, and Clackmannanshire. We also work with community organisations and have conducted our programmes at the Borders Book Festival, Edinburgh International Book Festival and the National Library of Scotland.

Who are you?

The Board supports the work of the Super Power Agency and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by the Managing Director, the Board-MD relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

We currently have 11 board members who bring a breadth of experience and expertise, and are looking for a Treasurer with experience in financial management, accounting or similar. You will work closely with the MD and accountant to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organisation.

Alongside the MD you will:

• Help maintain financial records
• Help prepare quarterly management accounts
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations
• Provide financial advice to the MD and board
• Monitor budgets and cashflow

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the Super Power Agency’s mission. No previous board experience is required.

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s leading charity for dementia and brain health. We are Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aims are to prevent, care and cure dementia, and to make sure nobody faces dementia alone.

We are a member-led charity with more than 8,000 members. We are supported by over 500 volunteers, and employ around 400 full and part-time staff, mainly in our service-provision across Scotland. Our people are our greatest asset.

The role

The successful candidate will be joining a small, fast paced and highly flexible HR team at an exciting time with the launch of new recruitment across the country, as well as a full HR system review. No two days will be the same and, as HR Assistant you will be responsible for supporting the organisation on recruitment, providing accurate and timely reports and implementing scheduled system changes in our HR platform, iTrent. You will also lead on maintaining and providing accurate payroll information on a monthly basis. This is a highly collaborative role and you’ll be expected to proactively work with managers to support them on recruitment, queries and advice on policies and procedures. You’ll also have the opportunity to work with other members of the team on recruitment, system and process reviews.

The person

You’ll enjoy working with systems in recruitment, reports and organisational data and have a keen eye for detail and ways to improve processes. The successful candidate will have experience working in a previous HR role and have experience of recruitment, HR systems and reporting. We’re looking for candidates who are used to a busy workload and are comfortable working independently. Flexibility in approach and to competing priorities is essential.

Due to the nature of our Collective Management structure, this is a unique role. We are the last true collective organisation that operates within the Scottish Women’s Aid Network. You will be involved in and have shared ownership of all areas of work Clydebank Women’s Aid undertakes.

Fundamentally, this is a role that allows the opportunity to work with other feminists who, like you, are committed to improving the lives of women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse and overthrowing patriarchy. This would be the ideal role for someone who does not want to be working from home and is looking for a varied and interesting role as no two days in Clydebank Women’s Aid are the same. You will have the unique perspective as a worker and a manager. By supporting the women, children, and young people directly, you will gain first-hand insight into the challenges and barriers they face. You will have the opportunity to contribute to local and national campaigns and legislation that could ultimately make a difference to the issues that the women, children, and young people that we support face on a day-to-day basis. Your passion, vision, attitudes, skills, and ideas will be valued and will be used to propel Clydebank Women’s Aid forward.

You will also be a Trustee of the charity and as such you will be required to make collective decisions on behalf of Clydebank Women’s Aid and ensure we are carrying out our remit for the public benefit, comply with and work to Clydebank Women’s Aid constitution, act in Clydebank Women’s Aid’s best wishes, manage Clydebank Women’s Aid resources responsibly, act with reasonable care and skill and ensure Clydebank Women’s Aid is accountable by complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements that demonstrate that the charity is run well. As a worker and Collective Manager at Clydebank Women’s Aid, we are all trained to the same level and have access to the same training opportunities, and Clydebank Women’s Aid will invest in your personal and professional development. With this, we do not have the expectation that you already have completed specific qualifications. Instead, we ask that you will be willing to work towards and gain an SVQ that meets both the standards of Clydebank Women’s Aid and the SSSC. The cost of which will be funded by Clydebank Women’s Aid. The cost of SSSC registration and PVG updates will also be covered by Clydebank Women’s Aid (within budgetary constraints).

Mindroom supports neurodivergent children and young people and their parents and carers and professionals. The Enquiries Administrator is the first person people speak to when they contact Mindroom so is an essential role for the organisation. They provide an empathetic, friendly, informed, and consistently efficient first point of contact for anyone enquiring about Mindroom services, as well as providing administrative support to our Direct Help and Support Team.

The charity is based in Edinburgh but the Direct Help and Support Service in which this role sits, covers the whole of Scotland. The post holder will primarily work from home, with some work from our Edinburgh office required.
