Drumchapel Citizens Advice Bureau is seeking new Board Members to join our governing body and support the delivery of vital advice services across Glasgow. About Drumchapel CAB

Drumchapel Citizens Advice Bureau provides free, impartial and confidential advice to people across Glasgow. We help local residents resolve issues around welfare benefits, debt, housing, employment and more — empowering individuals and improving quality of life in our community.

As a leading advice provider in the Glasgow area, we’re supported by a dedicated Board of Directors (Trustees) who bring strategic vision, professional insight and community knowledge. We are now seeking new members to join our Board and help shape the future direction of our organisation.

The Role

As a Board Member, you will play an active part in ensuring that Drumchapel CAB remains effective, accountable and sustainable.

You’ll work collectively with fellow Trustees and the Bureau Manager to:

• Provide strategic leadership and sound governance
• Support the management team to deliver high-quality advice services
• Contribute to decision-making that influences the Bureau’s future direction
• Promote our work within the community and wider networks

Board meetings are held every two months, typically lasting around two hours. Trustees may also choose to join sub-committees or short-term working groups.

Membership is open to anyone aged 18 or over who lives or works in Glasgow (G1–G15) or neighbouring areas.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds — especially those who share our commitment to fairness, inclusion and service excellence.

You don’t need previous Board experience — we’ll provide a full induction and ongoing support.

We’re particularly interested in applicants with experience or insight in any of the following areas:

• Finance or accountancy
• HR and people management
• Fundraising or business development
• Community engagement or public service delivery
• Legal, policy or compliance

Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB is an independent charity providing advice, information and support to people across our community. We are a friendly team of staff and volunteers working over 4 locations (Eyemouth, Duns, Kelso, and Hawick) delivering a busy advice service. We strive to deliver a good quality service that meets the needs of our clients in a non-judgemental and confidential manner. We aim for individuals not to suffer through not knowing or understanding their rights and responsibilities or not being aware of the services available to them. We provide advice and options to our clients so that they can make informed decision and feel empowered to improve their personal circumstance.

Job description:

The Money Advice Worker is responsible for quality of advice and delivery of the money advice service provided by Roxburgh & Berwickshire CAB.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing money advice casework service to clients, undertaking detailed casework on their behalf
• Providing support for money advice within the CAB Generalist service, including to both staff and volunteers.

An experienced adviser is required to improve the financial circumstances of the families supported by Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and Midlothian’s Family Wellbeing Service to improve the outcomes for the children.

The project will work with and receive referrals from Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and the Family Wellbeing Service team members. The worker will link with mental health projects, family support and Penicuik CAB’s specialist debt worker to develop a wraparound service to increase household income and improve the quality of life for the family.

Working closely with other project workers the post holder will provide awareness raising sessions with the Hawthorn Centre staff, Family Wellbeing team members and any other agencies, as appropriate.

Based at the Penicuik CAB, Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and working at any centres deemed appropriate, the worker will provide help and assistance with checking benefit entitlement, completing benefit applications and challenging benefit decisions. The work will also include income maximisation, budgeting advice, utilities and some assistance with debt issues (including housing debt).

A working knowledge and understanding of welfare benefits and good interpersonal skills are essential. The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering the service to meet the needs of the families.
