We are excited to be recruiting for a new policy officer to join our team. If you are passionate about using your skills in policy to create change at the highest level, to help improve people’s lives by ending mental health stigma, discrimination and inequality then this role could be ideal for you.

See Me is the national programme to end mental health stigma and discrimination. Our vision is for a fairer and more inclusive Scotland, free from mental health stigma and discrimination.

We are funded by the Scottish Government and managed by SAMH and The Mental Health Foundation and influencing change is what the programme is all about.

See Me’s Communications and Public Affairs team are responsible for ensuring that we influence change across the country, by influencing local and national policy, as well as policies for key public bodies.

The purpose of the role is to scope relevant policy developments and work with the Communications and Public Affairs Manager to ensure that the tackling of mental health stigma and discrimination is understood and acted upon in key areas of public policy.

What will you do

1. Scope and analyse a wide range of current and emergent public policy at national and local level and ensure See Me is up to date and aware of developments in this area.

2. Draft copy for consultation responses, policy positions papers and publications.

3. Write policy briefings for the team to support meetings, presentations and engagements.

4. Work collaboratively with our managing partners, SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) and Mental Health Foundation (MHF) teams to understand potential for new work to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination.

5. Conduct desktop research and engage with lived experience volunteers and colleagues to understand people’s experiences of mental health stigma and potential solutions.

6. Manage our Policy Champion volunteer programme

7. Maintain and update See Me policy positions on a range of key areas.

8. Represent See Me on key strategic groups.
