Role

Seamab is a registered Scottish Charity (SC011002) established in 1988, providing primary and secondary school education and care to 25 children from all over Scotland who have serious social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our vision is that all children and young people are loved and respected, that they enjoy their childhood and achieve their full potential.

Seamab is registered with the Care Inspectorate and currently employs 78 staff. Based near Rumbling Bridge in Kinross-shire, we operate a school and residential houses for the children we support 52 weeks of the year. We have recently opened a new house near to Linlithgow and have exciting plans to create a new fit-for-purpose school on our existing site. Further information on Seamab is available from our website seamab.org.uk

The role of a Trustee at Seamab is both interesting and varied. Our Trustees have ultimate responsibility for the development of the strategy and policy of the charity, as well as oversight of services. Trustees undertake a wide range of roles but are mainly responsible for making the charity effective, providing overall direction and maintaining sound management of funds.

We aim to have a Board which covers the key areas in which we work, and we are now seeking to appoint an additional member and are especially keen to hear from those with a social care/social work background.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a commitment to good governance and a desire to achieve our vision. We welcome applications from experienced and first-time board members with the right skills.

What does it involve?

You will need to commit to four Board meetings a year. In between Board meetings you will be responding to emails and reading papers. The successful candidate will also be a key member of the Children and Young People’s Committee, which meets quarterly before each Board meeting.

This is a voluntary position, however appropriate expenses can be paid in line with our Expenses Policy.
