Go Girvan: Community Led Tourism is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced person to support and develop community-led tourism projects. The opportunity is offered as a self-employed contract at a rate of £16.50 per hour. The expectation is that the post-holder will work 32.5 hours per week. The post is for 12 months, with an option to extend dependent on funding. Primary job description is listed below and should be used in tandem with the identified Tourism Action Plan 2021-2022, Community Led Tourism Priorities in the Thriving Places Plan (2021) and South Ayrshire Council Tourism & Events Strategy. These documents can be provided on request.

Key Tasks:

• Support Go Girvan: Community Led Tourism to project manage and deliver a range of projects to improve Girvan and its tourism offer, including
• Development and delivery of marketing and tourism strategy both online and in-person;
• Support for large-scale, long-term projects including an Ailsa Craig Centre, Tourist Information Point, and other opportunities as they arise;
• Planning and delivery of events and festivals including Tattie Fest, Stumpy Open Day, and support for community groups in the delivery of events.
• Assist the Board to prepare and submit funding applications for projects;
• Liaise with community groups, statutory organisations and business when required in the delivery of projects
• Attend regular Board meetings, prepare material, minutes and undertake other administrative duties;
• Work with the GG:CLT Board to create an updated Tourism Action Plan for Girvan 2024-2027 and the surrounding area;
• React to new opportunities which could be either collaborative projects, new projects, or funding;
• Record timesheets and document work via monthly reports to the Board;
• Any other duties as negotiated.

Consultation Specification, Professional Skills and Experience:

Essential:

• Ability to manage and deliver a range of projects and work with key stakeholders on those projects;
• Experience of completing funding applications, and strong knowledge of funding spheres;
• Ability to effectively present oral and written reports and information to a wide variety of audiences, including private, public and third sector organisations, and communities;
• Good knowledge of Girvan and its surroundings;
• Strong understanding of Community-Led Tourism Initiatives in Scotland and the UK;
• Experience of working with and engaging with people from different age groups;
• Experience and strong working knowledge of developing social media profiles and managing blogs and other digital media;
• Excellent organisational skills, including ability to manage a demanding workload, record own time, meet deadlines and work well on your own initiative;
• High standard of computer literacy including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
• Positive attitude, flexible, including the willingness to adapt to the needs of the project officer role;
• Assistance with day-to-day finances alongside the treasurer.

Desirable:

• Current driving licence and access to car with appropriate insurance cover;
• Hold a qualification or degree in tourism or tourism-adjacent subjects.

About Go Girvan: Community Led Tourism

GG:CLT is a two-tier Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization (SCIO), with Board Trustees and a membership of 140+ community members. We started the project in 2021 and have since delivered a wide range of projects including a new tourism website (gogirvan.co.uk), new social media profiles, revamping and supporting the volunteer-led Tourist Information Point, commissioning a feasibility study for an Ailsa Craig Centre, undertaking an Accommodation Scoping Report, and creating and delivering Tattie Fest in 2022 and 2023.

Background to post

PlayPeace SCIO supports families of children and young people with additional support needs to have fun, form friendships and be supported through a range of opportunities and services. This post/s will support regular weekly play sessions which are attended by children, young people and their parent/carer.

Purpose of Post

The post/s will allow the weekly play sessions to be planned and delivered to a high standard, in keeping with the core values of PlayPeace SCIO.

Reporting

The postholder/s will report to the Chief Executive Officer of PlayPeace, currently the sole employee. Over time reporting line may be subject to change should additional capacity be brought into the organisation.

Agape Wellbeing is a registered charitable organisation located centrally in East Kilbride dedicated to helping the local community achieve positive wellbeing through services and activities. We provide a Sensory Hub supporting families with young children.

Within our family sensory hub unit remit, develop and facilitate activities and services that promote positive wellbeing for children aged 0-3 yrs. through sensory hub setting

Carry out wellbeing assessments and support families to set desired goals and objectives to ensure children’s’ wellbeing is promoted

To liaise with Health Visitors, and other appropriate agencies with issues relating to a child’s health or welfare

Supported by the Agape Wellbeing Manager, carry out planning sessions and de-briefs with volunteers as appropriate

Identify families on low income, to promote and deliver our available schemes for families on low income.

Signpost families as appropriate to partner organisations

Help to organise and deliver a range of events to promote health and wellbeing in thecommunity.

What you’ll need

- A proven track record of working directly with pre-school children (especially 0- 3years) and their parents in groups and on a one to one basis.

- A strong understanding of the issues and challenges facing families and an empathetic and understanding manner towards them

- Key knowledge and understanding around GIRFEC

- A strong work ethic with an ability to work autonomously as well as within a team

- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work

- Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to form consistent, positive and appropriate relationships with young pre-school children and their families

- To be able to motivate and empower individuals to identify their own health improvement needs, aspirations and goals, and encourage their participation within their community

- An understanding of working with volunteers

- Knowledge and experience of Microsoft packages e.g. Word, PowerPoint

Cycling Developments at Bridgend Farmhouse

The Bridgend Farmhouse has always been passionate about cycling. We have an existing Bike Workshop and a soon to be completed Bike Barn. We host a social enterprise (‘A wee pedal’) dedicated to cycling activities and led rides and we have a direct connection to a network of cycle routes via Craigmillar Park. We have recently been given funding through Paths for All, Cycling Scotland and City of Edinburgh Council to support our cycling operation.

The Role

Our new Community Lead Bike Mechanic will oversee our bike refurbishment programme, refurbishing bikes for sale or matching them with people in our local community as well as some bike maintenance and servicing. The role involves training and support of volunteers / individuals on skills development placements, coordinating the rotas of our sessional bike staff and networking in the local community in order to share practice and promote access to our cycling initiatives. The person in this role will be motivated and organised, a qualified bike mechanic, have demonstrable experience of providing staff or volunteer support and will have a commitment to engaging with people who may previously not had access to cycling due to cultural or economic barriers, lack of skills or confidence.

Requirements for the role

• Qualified Bike Mechanic – Velotech gold or equivalent as a minimum.

• A passionate belief in the benefits of cycling and active travel.

• Experience of bike refurbishment.

• Experience of matching people with a suitable bike to meet their needs.

• Knowledge of cycling industry / community.

• High level of project coordination, organising and delivery skills.

• Excellent team worker.

• Flexible self-starter.

• Excellent communication skills.

• IT knowledge and experience to include Microsoft Office Applications.

• Enthusiasm for making a difference to the lives of disadvantaged people.

• Experience of providing support and training to staff and / or volunteers.
