IPPR Scotland is Scotland’s progressive think tank. We were created in 2015 as a cross-party, charitable think tank, neutral on the question of independence. We have developed over this time to be one of the most impactful policy organisations in Scotland. IPPR Scotland sits as part of the IPPR family across the UK, alongside IPPR North based in Manchester and the IPPR team in London. IPPR’s research and ideas have shaped progressive policy making for more than three decades.
We are looking to recruit a new Director for IPPR Scotland, who will lead our Scotland team to work for a fairer and more progressive Scotland. Our rigorously-researched analysis and new creative policy ideas and solutions have had a significant impact over our first six years, and we want to build on that into the future to realise a Scotland that genuinely places social, economic and environmental justice at its heart.
Scotland finds itself at a significant juncture that could shape the country not just for the next few years, but for generations to come. How we, as a country, use the powers of the Scottish Parliament to shape a successful recovery from Covid-19, and to deliver on key agendas around wellbeing, child poverty, fair work and just transition (to name only a few) will be incredibly important over the coming time.
If successful, you would be leading an organisation with a proven ability to shape some of the biggest decisions in Scotland. You will play an integral role in developing stakeholder relationships throughout Scotland, maintaining IPPR Scotland’s profile and acting as its figurehead, taking responsibility for all research outputs, events, influencing and media profile. You will be responsible for setting the strategic goals and priorities of IPPR Scotland and have a key role across the Institute as a member of IPPR’s senior management team. This is an exciting time to join the leadership team, as alongside this role we are appointing a new Director of IPPR North.
If you possess excellent understanding of the political process in Scotland and the UK, with an awareness of a wide range of public policy issues, this is the ideal job for you. You will also have excellent communication skills with the capacity to deal with people across all levels of government, politics, business, academia and the media. You will be an expert in policy-relevant research with a track record of innovative thinking, analysis and research including the ability to write and edit in a succinct and accessible style. With proven ability to fundraise from a variety of sources, you will build networks across the highest levels.
IPPR is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, and from applicants with a range of professional and lived experiences. As an organisation engaging in critical debate about a wide range of progressive policy issues, we value the creativity and range of perspectives that a diverse team can provide.
As part of our commitment to flexible working we will consider a range of options for the successful applicant to fill the post, including job-share and part-time working. All options can be discussed at interview stage.
