About the role

The Finance Officer ensures the smooth running of Iriss’s finances, including bookkeeping, invoicing, purchasing, budgeting, grant claims and audit.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who can help keep Iriss running smoothly and efficiently:

• Analysis: You can analyse financials to explain why budgets have over or underspent and what the forecast going forward is.
• Organisation: You will be able to work within structures and deadlines.
• Working in a team: We are a small, busy team that works hard to make best use of everyone’s skills.
• Diplomacy and customer focus: We want everyone who comes into contact with Iriss to have a good experience. You are the kind of person who takes pride in doing excellent work and supporting others.

You will have skills and experience in:

• Bookkeeping: This should include keeping financial records and software (preferably XERO) up to date including invoicing and purchasing.
• Reporting and forecasting: You will have experience producing quarterly/yearly reports for senior management that include a year end forecast and producing draft budgets for the coming year.
• Working with Auditors: You will have experience working with external auditors to produce annual accounts.

You will have knowledge of:

• Financial procedures and systems including XERO, setting and reporting on budgets, payroll and pensions.
• Charity financial reporting.

A typical week in the role

In a typical week in the role, you might be doing the following:

• Updating XERO with the purchase invoices.
• Chasing a client for payment on an overdue invoice.
• Working with the Head of Resources to ensure a planned event is running on budget.
• Taking part in a project retrospective to understand more about Iriss’ work and ensure Iriss is financially stable.

Ministry at the Margins is a key area of focus for SU Scotland. We are creating a culture amongst our staff and volunteer team consistent with God’s concern for the marginalised, seen throughout the entirety of Scripture.

This concern, we trust, develops a posture towards and alongside children and young people who experience marginalisation We have identified six areas in which young people can be marginalised:

· Additional Support Needs

· Relative poverty

· Affected by a family member’s imprisonment

· Care-experienced

· Refugee/asylum seekers

· Minority ethnic

Young people with ASNs access all our areas of ministry - schools, missions, holidays, school residentials, discipleship events, and yet we recognise that there is far more that could be done to see “every child and young person” engaged in SU Scotland ministry. This new full-time role aims to help us do just that connecting with staff and volunteers across the breadth of the organisation.

Who we are: Scripture Union Scotland's vision is to see every child and young person in Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus. We are a national charity, with around 100 staff and around 2,000 volunteers. Our activities take place in schools, outdoor activity centres, and churches.

We are seeking a full time Additional Support Needs Development Coordinator to join our Ministry at the Margins team, leading SU Scotland’s ministry in this area.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing strategic leadership: developing and enabling good practice for ASNs in all ministry contexts across SU Scotland

• Ensure appropriate resources are developed for use within ASN contexts

• Organising and delivering specialised events that train, resource and inspire different stakeholders

• Engaging in ministry with children and young people with ASNs

• Raising further financial support for this post

Who we are looking for: The successful applicant will have a passion for, have been involved in and have clear understanding and experience of working with children and young people with a wide variety of Additional Support Needs. A strategic and creative thinker, resource developer and trainer, you will be able to communicate confidently, sensitively and diplomatically, inspiring others, both SU Scotland staff and volunteers.

This a new initiative that My Support Day is developing and collaborating with The Beacons. The project called “Family Days” will be based within the South Lanarkshire Beacons. The project’s focal point will be on a whole family approach threading education throughout, adapting to individual/family needs.

Identifying a gap in services working with families affected by substance use; particularly with children/young people that have been affected by someone else’s substance use has highlighted the importance to create work with partners in education, focusing on early intervention and prevention around children and families. The Family Days sessions will be a safe, supportive, and productive family meetup time, out of school hours to assist children / young people in completing their homework and or to provide extra support where required. Family Days will provide vital support for children who do not otherwise have the help that they need. My Support Day will focus on vital family support via 1:1 support, group setting and focus on education and information sessions in a trauma informed, psychological and nurturing environment addressing trauma and the impact for those affected by someone else’s substance use.

The Family Co-ordinator will lead on developing, co-ordinating and supporting activities of My Support Day’s Family Days and to further develop and enhance the service provided to meet the needs of families that have been affected by someone else’s substance use to engaged with Family Days sessions.

Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) is Scotland’s national resource of expertise on drugs and related issues. We seek to lead and represent the drugs field in Scotland to improve Scotland’s response to problem drug use. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a busy, dynamic, and supportive team within a national third sector organisation.

We are pleased to be recruiting for this position of Coordination and Development Officer to drive forward the growth and development of SDF’s Recovery Worker Training Programme (RWTP) in Highland, at an exciting time of growth and change for the employability workstream in SDF.

This post will work to ensure that people with lived and living experience of drug and alcohol problems are sufficiently represented in drug and alcohol service delivery across the Highland geography.

The Co-ordination and Development Officer will grow an existing small network of stakeholders across Highland to support the project - placement providers (drug, alcohol, and social care agencies), employability partners, and education providers, to support and deliver the project outcomes.

With support from the Senior Development Officer, the role will also seek to establish multiple entry and employment pathways across Highland, in and out of RWTP.

This post is a key part of our Employability Support Team in SDF and will contribute towards the wider work of the team.
