Role

Our charity has been supporting families in the Highlands for almost 3 decades, for many years as Chip+ then we re-launched as Thriving Families in 2021. Our goal is to be the ‘go to’ organisation known for improving the lives of families in the Highlands by giving them confidence, empowering them to know their rights, know what questions to ask and have their voices heard.

We are currently commissioned to provide an independent information, advice, and support service for families with children (up to age 25) with additional support needs, and the professionals working with them. An additional support need is anything which means a child needs more, or different, support to another child the same age to make the most of their lives. We are also delivering peer support, digital support and volunteering.

Requirements of Trustees

The Board is seeking to recruit new Trustees to the Board. We are particularly interested to hear from those with relevant experience in business/finance and HR, who shares our passion to improve the lives of families in the Highlands.

Trustees are expected to attend bi-monthly Board meetings. Meetings usually last for 2 hours. Meetings are usually held online or a venue in Inverness city centre.

Trustees will also be expected to attend some staff team meetings online and occasional events relevant to the charity.

Term

Trustees will normally serve 12 months (from AGM to AGM). Trustees can stand for re-election at the AGM.

Responsibility

Trustees are responsible to the Board. Each Trustee must meet the Charitable Trustee Legal Duty (OSCR).

Training

Trustees will be offered induction and access to other training or learning relevant to the role.

Equal Opportunities

We are committed to creating an environment where everyone can contribute and reach their full potential regardless of individual characteristics or circumstances. We welcome Board member applications from all suitable candidates regardless of gender, race, disability, religion, or belief.

Application notes

Applications to join the Board as a Trustee should be submitted by email to Sarah Fowler, Service Manager (sarah.fowler@thrivingfamilies.org.uk).

Successful applicants will be initially co-opted to the Board and then confirmed at the AGM.
