The RSE is looking for a Public Affairs Officer. This new role will work within the Policy team, developing impactful, impartial, and cross-party engagement activities to influence national decision-making across the UK, including supporting political engagement with RSE Fellows and the Young Academy of Scotland and soliciting their input and participation.

As Scotland’s National Academy with over 1,800 Fellows from academia, business and public service who are among the most distinguished in their fields; we engage and connect nationally and internationally to share knowledge and tackle the most pressing challenges of the modern world.

We are looking for a talented individual to:

  • Monitor and analyse current and emerging political developments to help set the context for RSE’s policy work
  • Pursue impactful opportunities for RSE to shape national policy discourse and outcomes
  • Regularly and proactively engage with Scottish Parliament, Scottish Government, UK Parliament, UK Government, and other key policy bodies
  • Build a network of key contacts across critical and adjacent organisations to maximise potential routes into influencing national decision-making and make the best use of resources through collaborative working
  • Conduct all activities with a viewing to emphasising and protecting RSE’s political impartiality and cross-party engagement
