We are a Registered Charity and SCIO SC046936. Established in 1985, the Charity has been delivering vital services for women and children across the Inverclyde area for over 37 years. Inverclyde Women’s Aid’s vision is of a society, in which women, children and young people are full and equal participants, free from the threat of abuse, violence or oppression.

We are looking for Trustees to join our Board. Would you like to help improve the lives of women, children and young people who have experience of domestic abuse in Inverclyde?

Do you have an understanding of the feminist analysis of domestic abuse? Do you have some time to give on a voluntary basis to provide leadership, legal and fiscal oversight, and to support the ongoing development of the vital services we provide?

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and committed women, aged 16 years or over to our Board. We have several vacancies.

The Opportunity: This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our feminist governance team supporting and overseeing the development of the organisation to ensure the continued delivery of high quality, responsive services to vulnerable women, children and young people in our area. You do not need to know everything there is to know about domestic abuse, but you will need to prove that you are interested in our work, reliable, action focussed and committed to our principles and values.

We welcome applications from women with strategic vision, good independent judgement, and the ability to work as part of a diverse team. We are committed to diversifying our Board so women representing all sections of the community are welcome. We are keen to add to existing skills and knowledge, so we particularly want to hear from women with the following professional backgrounds: human resources/employment law, marketing & communications or social media, third sector or social enterprise experience, fundraising, business, property management, IT skills and women who have a legal background. We also strongly encourage women who have personal experience of domestic abuse to offer us their personal insight into accessing and using the range of services offered by women’s aid and partners.

Time Commitment: The Board currently meet bi-monthly via Zoom. The frequency and the method of meeting will continue to be reviewed regularly to meet the needs of the organisation. It is important that prospective trustees recognise that they will also be, at times, responsible for progressing pieces of work in between meetings, either on an individual basis on behalf of the Board or as part of a short life working group or a sub-group of the Board.

There is also an expectation that new Trustees will fully participate in a comprehensive induction, as well as ongoing training and support. Although the Board is meeting online, we would anticipate that the Board Members visit the staff team and that at least once a year there is a strategic planning day in person with the staff and Board.

Our posts are open to women only applicants as we are a woman only service, covered by the occupational requirement exemption under the Equality Act 2010.

Are you passionate about nature? Do you have the skills and enthusiasm to help us reverse pollinator decline? The Trust is looking for a Trustee with experience in equity, diversity and inclusion and human resources to join our Board.

Trustees work well together, and with the executive team with a spirit of openness and trust. We recruit skilled individuals passionate about nature, species conservation and bumblebees. We’re very proud of our inclusive culture at the Trust – we care as much about what you have the potential to do as what you have already done and we welcome applications from those who are new to trusteeship as well as those with previous experience. With projects across the UK we look to have Trustees based in all the devolved nations and so are particularly keen to receive applications from individuals based outside England.

Background

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust was established because of serious concerns about the ‘plight of the bumblebee’. Over the past century, UK bumblebee populations have declined and two species have become nationally extinct. The Trust is a science-based charity, concerned with halting and reversing the decline in bumblebees.

The Trust’s vision is to increase the number and distribution of bumblebees. To achieve this, the Trust has an agreed strategy working toward four main aims:

1. Enhance the understanding of bumblebee ecology and conservation.

2. Increase the quality and quantity of bumblebee habitat.

3. Inspire and enable a diverse range of people to take action for bumblebees.

4. Be an effective and sustainable organisation.

This is a voluntary position but offers an exciting opportunity to assist a dynamic charity to develop its conservation and science work in the UK.

Our Board of Trustees play a key role in the oversight of the charity, ensuring that it delivers against its charitable objectives, is financially sustainable, has strong governance and safeguards the reputation and values of the organisation.

MADE4U is a vibrant community organisation in the ML2 area of North Lanarkshire, founded through the collective action and community compassion of a number of local churches in 2006.

Wellbeing:We provide over 18 different activities including befriending, emergency food, Community cafes, men’s group activities, fuel support, onward referrals and a benefit/money advice service.

Youth: We operate youth drop-ins, volunteering and employability work, schools engagement and wrap around support for young people and their families.

ROLE PURPOSE - CHAIR OF TRUSTEES

Charity Trustees are a group of people who ultimately exercise control over, and are legally responsible for, the charity. Our current Chair of Trustees is looking to retire having been involved with theorganisation since its conception.

We are looking to recruit a new individual with the skills and experience to act as a figurehead for our organisation, lead the Board of Trustees while promoting good governance, and provide effective andempowering line management support to our charities Senior Manager.

Charity Trustees are a group of people who ultimately exercise control over, and are legally responsible for, the charity. They provide overall direction, support and encouragement, ensure the smooth running of the organisation and are responsible for the governance of the charity.

We currently have 5 members of our Board of Trustees offering a range of skills and experience and local connections.

We are currently looking to recruit talented new Trustees who can support our organisation with its charitable aim of making a difference within the ML2 community. We are particularly looking for individuals who have experience in either Human Resources, Finance/Accounting, Income Generation/Fundraising, Building Management, or Leadership/Management.
