Role

The Promise Scotland is responsible for driving the work of change demanded by the conclusions of the Independent Care Review.

It works with all kinds of organisations to support shifts in policy, practice, and culture so Scotland can #KeepThePromise it made to care experienced infants, children, young people, adults, and their families - that every child grows up loved, safe and respected, able to realise their full potential.

The Promise Scotland’s sole reason for being is to facilitate and support change, wherever that change needs to happen to make sure that Scotland will #KeepThePromise.

Job Purpose

The Promise Scotland works with all organisations who have responsibility for shifting policy, legislation, practice and culture so Scotland can #KeepThePromise it made to care experienced infants, children, young people, adults and their families - that every child grows up loved, safe and respected, able to realise their full potential. The Promise Scotland is looking for a dynamic, skilled and motivated Policy Officer to support the organisation’s policy and public affairs work.

The role sits within the Public Affairs team, which has responsibility for:

  • Policy & legislative change – supporting and leading on policy and statutory changes essential to keep the promise.
  • Strategic communication – developing and adapting a strategic communication framework, including stakeholder and audience management; maintaining appropriate communication channels; ensuring language, tone and brand are consistent across the organisation
  • In common with all teams, working closely with colleagues across The Promise Scotland to ensure coherence and consistency across programmes and initiatives.

Main duties of the role

This role is an exciting opportunity for a policy and public affairs professional. As Policy Officer you will provide support to the Public Affairs team and in particular the Policy Lead to develop strategic thinking, advice and positioning. The Promise Scotland’s policy work helps decision makers make choices that will #KeepThePromise. It does this through working with partners, particularly Scottish Government on policy development. This is a particularly exciting time to be joining the team with a commitment to a Promise Bill by the end of this Parliament. This Scottish Government commitment will change the legislative framework around the ‘care system.’ The Promise Scotland will be working with partners to seek to embed the recommendations of the Hearings System Working Group.
