Ever wondered if you could use your skills in a way that could transform the lives of hundreds of homeless young people every year?
We are recruiting for a new Board Member
Rock Trust
Rock Trust aims to prevent youth homelessness and to support young people to build better futures. Rock Trust’s core values are safety, fairness, respect and positivity, values which exist as much for our staff and volunteers as the young people we work with. These values, along with continuously striving for equality and diversity, underpin everything we do.
Our Board of Trustees is committed to this mission and uphold our values, and Trustees bring their wide range of skills, knowledge, expertise, objectivity, insight, and strategic thought to the table. They involve themselves in our work and steer and drive our organisation to achieve increasingly better results.
We are committed to diversifying the background of our Board of Trustees, and welcome applications from all parts of the community.
About you
We are looking for an individual who can help us expand the range of skills around the table. At this time, we are seeking an individual with Financial/Accounts Management or Third Sector Leadership/Charity experience. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in leading people, teams or organisations and be able to bring a range of knowledge and skill to the Board to support strategic decision making in these areas.
Candidates do not need experience or knowledge of homelessness or youth work but must be committed and passionate about making a difference for young homeless people.
The Role
The Board ensures the delivery of all aspects of our service and policy implementation, whilst supporting the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team in achieving the organisation’s vision and purpose. Board members are also offered a thorough induction to the work of the organisation and opportunities for development. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and are committed to creating a diverse team.
Why should you apply?
Alex, one of our Trustees reflected on her time on the board “I had not anticipated the breadth of matters that I have experienced and been involved in as a Trustee during my time so far…working with a small but core management team has resulted in me seeing more operational and strategic aspects, which has been good for my own personal development as well as hopefully bringing some fresh insight to the management team.”
Being a Trustee is a great way to provide your skills and experience to an organisation. The wider our background pool on our Board, the more views and opinions we can consider when taking strategic decisions. It also provides immeasurable development opportunities for you, developing strategic thinking and leadership skills.
The Commitment
This is a non-remunerated role (we will pay out of pocket and travel expenses). Full Board meetings are held quarterly, with either in person meetings at our main office in Edinburgh’s city centre or via MS Teams, and we have events and development days which Board members can also attend each year.
