About FAMS

Families Affected Murder and Suicide are a Lanarkshire based Charity supporting people across Scotland. We support the mental health and wellbeing of adults and young people, their families, peers and communities, who have been affected by trauma, post Murder and Suicide. FAMS also supports the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people, presenting with mild to moderate mental health issues, often coupled with suicidal behaviours.

Job Purpose

To identify and manage the support needs of new referrals from point of contact to end of support. To create an individual FAMS referral form tailored to meet those needs by engaging with appropriate internal and external support services. To identify the support and training needs of new and existing FAMS referrals. To provide monthly report for FAMS Board of Trustees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Raising awareness of Support Worker service
  • Manage all aspects of FAMS referrals in line with organisational service criteria. First response within 48 hours
  • Informing referrals of the wide range of one2one and groups services available, helping service users make informed choices
  • Creating a safe environment that allows individuals and families to express their views, wishes and choices
  • Working with individuals in line with the principles and aims of the organisation based on mutual respect, dignity and honesty
  • Source information by networking with external organisations
  • Representing FAMS at local meetings and events
  • Group advocacy, liaise with statutory organisations etc.
  • Feedback learning opportunities for new and existing referrals to FAMS Board
  • Assist in the development of FAMS by participating in development days, task groups etc when required, promoting and raising awareness of the organisation and its services

Self-Management

  • Manage workload efficiently in accordance with FAMS policies and procedures
  • Present a positive image at all times
  • Identify and undertake personal training and development opportunities
  • Participate in the support, supervision and appraisal development process
  • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures and protocols within FAMS Employee Handbook
  • Ensure personal safety in and out of the office in accordance with the Safety Procedure
  • Responsible for the administrative duties of the post, both operational and personal
