Role

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) empower young people from all backgrounds, support them learn new skills, overcome obstacles, and build confidence and resilience. They help young people build a life-long belief in themselves, take on extraordinary challenges, follow their passions and discover talents while, at the same time, being supported by exceptionally committed and passionate adults.

To continue raising funds to support the Charity’s strategic growth in Scotland, we’re looking for an enthusiastic Senior Relationship Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a small, dynamic, ambitious, and welcoming team, that believes in the transformative power of youth work and the power of partnerships.

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser who has worked with high-net-worth individuals and, ideally, Trusts & Foundations, with a strong track record of driving income. This role will be crucial in raising funds to support the Charity’s strategic growth in Scotland to increase access to DofE and ensure all young people have the opportunity to take part.

Knowledge of the Scottish education system, within a wider policy context, as well as a good understanding of working with Local Authorities would be helpful but not essential.

Working closely with the Director for Scotland, you will maximise funding opportunities and design bids which meet the needs of DofE’s operational activity in Scotland. You will be responsible for maintaining and growing income, developing relationships with existing and prospective donors, and work closely with the Head of Philanthropy on the development and delivery of the philanthropy strategy in Scotland.

The role is home-based, but we anticipate regular travel across Scotland to attend meetings and/or training.

The teams you’ll be working with:

The Scotland Team

The DofE Scotland team covers DofE activity across the length and breadth of Scotland, working with over 160 licensed organisations and 3,500 adult leaders, to support more than 30,000 young people in their DofE journey.

It’s an exciting time to join the Scotland team. As part of the charity’s Youth Without Limits strategy, the team has ambitious plans for growth with new and innovative projects in the pipeline to increase access to DofE, particularly for marginalised young people.

The Philanthropy and Major Giving Team

The Philanthropy and Major Giving team is responsible for an annual budget of at least £3m with an ambition to grow this annually to at least £5m by 2025. During 2021/22 the team doubled its target after the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh provided a significant opportunity to raise both awareness, and the profile of the Charity.

The Philanthropy and Major Giving team looks after a variety of relationships with high-net-worth individuals, family trusts and foundations, many of whom are long-term supporters of the Charity. The team is proactive when it comes to new business, seeking opportunities from our current networks and events.

To be considered for the role, you must have a passion for youth work in Scotland, have strong interpersonal skills with demonstrable success in fundraising, networking and relationship building at the very highest level which has led to significant financial support. You should have proven experience in generating new business and managing and growing a diverse portfolio with exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders. Experience in writing inspiring bids and proposals to secure significant sustainable income, through multi-year pledges, from Trusts and Foundations would also be advantageous.

This is a high-profile role working for a fun, exciting and progressive charity.
