The Role:

We are looking for a new part time Community Worker who shares our values and will use them to guide the way they work on a daily basis. You will be accountable to our Community HUB Coordinator.

This post is based within the Barrowfield Community Hub. It involves actively engaging with individuals and groups within the local community to identify needs, provide support, develop groups and activities within the centre, facilitate access to services, and empower them to address social issues. These will often focus on areas like poverty, health, housing, or mental wellbeing. Through building relationships, the post holder will act as a vital link between the charity's services and the local community.

The Barrowfield Community Hub is normally open 7 days per week, with late night opening 3 days a week on weeknights to 8pm subject to bookings

What You’ll Do

  • Support the charities existing activities and groups to continue, develop and grow, taking an asset-based partnership approach
  • Ensure that the Hub provides a welcoming, safe, caring, and healthy working environment for anchor tenants, staff, volunteers, and the wider community
  • Support the development and take up of existing and new volunteering opportunities at the Barrowfield Community Hub and recruit, train, and support volunteers
  • Actively signpost, refer and support community members to take up partner organisations offer of activities and services

What We’re Looking For

  • Excellent interpersonal and engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Good IT skills including word processing, excel, email and other software packages
  • Ability to motivate and encourage community participation within hard-to-reach groups
  • Experience of working or volunteering directly with communities
  • Experience of developing and delivering community activities and events

About the Role

This is a hands on role where you will act as the first point of contact for both Project Worker staff and the students who attend our workshops, providing guidance, support, and practical problem solving throughout the day. Working closely with the Service Manager, you will support the operational running of the site by coordinating daily logistics of the service. This includes organising and managing rotas to ensure that our services are adequately staffed. You will monitor the delivery of our service, respond to emerging challenges, and ensure that organisational policies, procedures, and quality standards are followed at all times.

Borders Independent Advocacy Service has established itself as one of Scotland’s leading providers of independent advocacy, delivering exceptional services since 1995. At the heart of our work are the rights of children and young people and the power of their voices to bring about positive change.

We provide individual, relationship-based independent advocacy and a wide range of participatory opportunities for people across the Scottish Borders. We work alongside corporate parents and communities to broaden understanding, and with policymakers, leaders and elected representatives locally and nationally to shape law, policy and practice based on the lived experience of Scottish Borders people.

The Role

We are seeking a Service Manager to lead the day-to-day delivery of Borders Independent Advocacy’s services across the Scottish Borders.

You will be a key member of the management team, providing operational leadership and ensuring high-quality, rights-based advocacy services. Working in partnership with professionals, carers and organisations, you will support the best outcomes for people accessing advocacy by ensuring effective systems for referrals, case allocation, recording and monitoring.

You will:

  • Provide operational leadership and quality assurance across advocacy services.
  • Line manage and support Advocacy Workers and volunteers.
  • Ensure safeguarding, contractual and quality standards are met.
  • Oversee referrals, case management and performance monitoring systems.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with statutory and third sector agencies.
  • Lead service development, reporting and continuous improvement activity.
  • Promote awareness of Borders Independent Advocacy Service and its services locally and nationally.

This role will include a particular responsibility for ensuring the effective delivery of advocacy for children and young people up to age 25.

About You

You will be an experienced, values-driven manager who can lead teams and services with confidence and compassion.

You will have:

  • Experience managing or coordinating advocacy or related services (e.g. children’s services, social care, youth work, substance use or third sector services).
  • Strong knowledge of human rights and safeguarding legislation.
  • Proven experience supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and partnership-working skills.
  • Confidence working in multi-agency environments.
  • A commitment to equality, inclusion and participation.
  • A full driving licence and access to a car.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends when required.

You will be committed to children’s rights and believe that all young people can make positive and transformative change when given the opportunity. You will demonstrate knowledge of current structures, developments, policy and practice relating to children and young people experiencing care in Scotland.

We are currently recruiting a Support Worker to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring access to a wide variety of services and interventions throughout all stages of the service users recovery journey.

Support Workers work as part of a forward looking, flexible and creative team. Our services are user focused and aspirational in their work with our service users to realise their identified goals, including the attainment of the highest quality of life possible, social reintegration, and sustained reduction in drug/alcohol use.

Full Time Salary:£25,077.00 pro rata

Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and all payments will be paid pro rata based on contracted hours.

Responsibilities

About the role:

  • To support the provision of the service’s key activities; assessment, implementation, monitoring and review of recovery plans; structured psychosocial support, group work, peer led interventions, and planned treatment exit.
  • To deliver effective engagement and harm reduction interventions as required by service users presenting with a wide range of drug or alcohol issues.
  • To support service users, under the guidance of recovery coordinators, to access the full range of provision within the recovery orientated system of care, maximising benefits and recovery capital towards sustained recovery and community re-integration.
  • To co-deliver support activities and interventions alongside the multi-disciplinary team, external agencies, peers and volunteers.
  • To work with the recovery coordinator to build and develop the service user’s personal strengths, social networks and recovery capital.
  • To effectively and proactively signpost service users into a rage of health and social care services that will support their recovery.
  • To adhere to the implementation of all risk management procedures including child and adult protection protocols and guidelines taking personal responsibility for keeping up to date on the requirements of these procedures.
  • To fully inform service users about their recovery/treatment options, involve them in decisions and consent and encourage them to take opportunities to achieve a sustained recovery.
  • To form productive working relationships with external agencies and professionals, existing and new, to ensure service users have access to a wide range of recovery and community.

About you:

  • Experience in providing a range of evidence-based treatment/support interventions within a Health and Social Care setting (through paid or voluntary work).
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of the harmful effects associated with drugs and/or alcohol use in relation to health, social welfare, housing, employability and personal relationships.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of interventions available to substance users.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of policies related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and how these influence practice.
  • An understanding of models of recovery and wider community service provision in supporting recovery.
  • Understanding of principles of effective record keeping and administration processes.
  • A good general standard of education to Standard Grade/GCSE level or equivalent including English. S/NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent level experience.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and partnership agencies.
  • Show a capacity to work on your own initiative and the ability to keep calm under pressure.
  • Effectively time manage and prioritise tasks both independently and as part of a team.
