Douglas Alexander, Member of Parliament for Lothian East, is looking for an experienced and well organised person to
join his team as a Caseworker. We are open to discussing full time and part time hours at interview. This is an
opportunity to work in a varied role where you can make a real difference. The role will involve supporting
Douglas’s work by responding to constituents’ queries. You will be a key part of the team based in the
constituency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deal with a large number of queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from
constituents.
- Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and
accurately.
- Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
- Draft
letters to government/other agencies and responses to constituents.
- Gather relevant information to
assist with resolving cases.
- Accompany the MP to advice surgeries and visits in the constituency and
follow up as appropriate.
- Retain records and information confidentially and in line with
GDPR.
- Other duties as may be reasonably directed.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and good attention to detail
- Proficient user of
Microsoft Office
- Calm, polite, confident and empathetic when engaging with the public
- Well
organised, able to prioritise, plan and respond to a high volume of diverse casework displaying strong
multi-tasking and time management skills
- Ability to work independently, show initiative and work well as
part of a wider team, demonstrating a positive and flexible attitude.
- Experience of managing casework,
or similar
- Able to maintain confidentiality at all times
Desirable skills:
- Understanding or previous experience of working with public authorities and workings of Government

Office.
