North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid is a voluntary organisation based in Cumbernauld. We provide a confidential service that provides valuable information, support and temporary accommodation to women and their children who have experienced domestic abuse, campaign to raise awareness of this issue and support other domestic and sexual violence services throughout the area.

North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid Ltd (NLWA) is a voluntary organisation based in Cumbernauld providing a confidential service offering valuable information, support and temporary accommodation to women and their children who have experienced domestic abuse in the Cumbernauld Kilsyth, Stepps, Moodiesburn, Chryston, Mount Ellen and Gartcosh areas. NLWA also campaigns to raise awareness of this issue and supports other domestic and sexual violence services throughout the area. Referrals mainly come from Social Work, educational professionals and Housing in addition to self referrals.

As a Limited Company and registered Scottish Charity, North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid is controlled by an independent voluntary Board of Directors drawn from the local community and is also accountable to funders including Scottish Government and the National Lottery.

North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid works in partnership with other Women’s Aid organisations throughout Great Britain to maintain an “open door” policy which allows women to access Refuges in any part of the country if they feel the need to move out of their local area.

We believe in equality of all people regardless of race, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation or ability. We BELIEVE all women and children who come to us for support. We believe women and children have a right to live free from all forms of violence and abuse and that society has a duty to recognise and defend this right. Domestic violence is a violation of human rights.

About the Roles

NLWA is looking for up to 2 committed women with a strong background in one or more of the following areas:

  • being a Charity Trustee, Education, Finance, Health, Housing

to join the 4 members currently on our Board guiding the strategic and operational direction of the organisation.

We would also welcome applications from women who may not have Board experience but who are passionate about creating a better future for those who have been affected by domestic abuse.

You do not need to know everything there is to know about domestic and or sexual abuse, but you will need to prove that you are interested in our work, be reliable, action focussed and committed to our principles and values.

Board meetings take place monthly at our office in Cumbernauld. The positions are voluntary but we will provide you with training and support and pay your expenses.

Office Administrator

North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid have delivered domestic abuse services across the Northern Corridor of North Lanarkshire for more than 30 years. We provide an outstanding level of service provision to support the needs of women, children and young people who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse.

We are seeking to recruit 1 full time suitable experienced, skilled, and qualified woman to fulfil the role.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of administrative support for the organisation. You must be flexible and adaptable to changing workloads and have good communication and IT skills. Including proficiency in Microsoft Office Programmes. You must be honest, hardworking, and self-motivated and can work as part of a team.

We are looking for someone who is positive, creative, and accountable, with the ability to build positive relationships with partner organisations, service users and our staff.

The Post is initially for 6 months with the possibility of becoming permanent.

The successful candidate will have a SVQ level 3 or equivalent in business administration or another relevant subject.

The successful candidate will be subject to PVG and reference checks.

Children and Young Peoples Support Worker

North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid have delivered domestic abuse services across the Northern Corridor of North Lanarkshire for more than 30 years. We provide an outstanding level of service provision to support the needs of women, children and young people who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse.

We are currently seeking to recruit 1 part time suitably experienced, skilled and qualified woman to fulfil the role.

The role of the Children and Young person’s support worker will be to enhance the service by providing preventative, crisis intervention and ongoing casework support to children and young people who are directly or indirectly exposed to the issues of domestic abuse.

Applicants must be qualified to SVQ level 3 childcare & early years or equivalent in a relevant qualification. Experience of working with children and young people is essential and knowledge of the impact that domestic abuse has upon their development is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Driving Licence and access to a car is essential.

Integrated Women’s Support Worker

We provide an outstanding level of service provision to support the needs of women, children and young people who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse.

We are currently seeking to recruit 1 part time, suitable experienced, skilled, and qualified woman to fulfil the role.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of an Integrated Women’s Support Service. The post holder will be required to provide information, advocacy, advice and support to women who contact North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid as well as carrying out trauma informed assessment and intervention.

Applicants must be qualified to SVQ level 3 Health and Social Care or equivalent in a relevant qualification.

Driving Licence and access to a car is essential.
