You will be responsible for managing and co-ordinating the delivery of the National Galleries of Scotland Environmental Response Plan. This involves delivering the strategy for NGS, co-ordinating colleague engagement to support behaviour change and managing projects to reduce environmental impact and carbon emissions. You will also ensure compliance to Scottish Government legislation for public bodies climate change duties and biodiversity duties for annual reporting and target setting.
The National Galleries Scotland is dedicated to promoting the appreciation and understanding of art in Scotland and beyond. Its collections encompass masterpieces by renowned artists such as Rembrandt, Turner, Van Gogh, Monet, Titian, and many others.
Additionally, it hosts special exhibitions, educational programs, and community engagement initiatives to make art accessible to a wide audience.
As well as displaying art at their three Edinburgh sites, it is also shared through an active programme of partnership across Scotland, the rest of the UK and abroad, as well as online.
As the Development Manager for Patrons and Individual Giving, you'll play a pivotal role in the organisation's mission by building and nurturing relationships with dedicated individual donors and patrons. Your efforts will be instrumental in securing major gifts, corporate sponsorship, to continue supporting exhibitions, campaigns, conservation, and acquisitions. The Art Works
The Art Works is our project to deliver a sustainable new facility for the National Galleries of Scotland to care for, research and share Scotland’s world-renowned collection of art. We will build a dynamic new facility in Granton, right at the heart of the local community, with spaces for local people and groups to meet and connect. It will be the largest building in Scotland designed to the Passivhaus environmental standard and, once open, it will operate at carbon net zero.
The Purpose and Scope of the Post
This role will ensure that NGS is responding to and working with the local community to embed The Art Works in North Edinburgh to enable it to make a positive contribution. The post holder will maintain and developing relationships with local groups and organisations. The role will enable the community voice to contribute and influence the Art Works in terms of its design and its contribution to the community. The role will be a conduit for clear and open communication between the local community, NGS colleagues and project partners. The research and insights gained through working with the community will support the wider NGS audience development planning and as such this post will have an awareness and understanding of the audience plans for NGS. The post will contribute to a community engagement plan for NGS and The Art Works.

The Learning & Engagement Department
The NGS has a strong commitment to engaging audiences and supporting learning. We believe that art has the power to connect us to each other and to ourselves. The Learning and Engagement Department plays a key role in the NGS, supporting the delivery of our aims of increased participation, greater impact and investment in our future. By means of innovative, relevant and inspiring learning programmes and special projects, we engage with a wide range of audiences to connect with the national art collection and make art work for everyone.
The Learning and Engagement Department sits within the directorate of Public Engagement and works collaboratively across all departments.
Job Summary
This post will oversee the community engagement work of the department across programmes ensuring best practice in the approach, delivery and legacy. The post will work with colleagues to identify areas of community engagement work that have the potential for further development and growth, and will effectively articulate, plan and champion this. The post will also support, and at times lead on, specific community engagement partnerships and projects within NGS with an initial focus being the overview of The Art Works community engagement strand. This will include the line management of the programme officer and advising on strategic alignment and sustainability of the programme.
The post will be a key part of the management team within the department and will support and progress the strategic direction of the Learning & Engagement department where Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Health and Wellbeing are two key priorities. The post line-manages part of the team and will undertake management duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the department. The post reports to the Head of Learning and Engagement and will work alongside the Deputy Head of Learning and Engagement: Exhibitions & Collection.
We have an exciting opportunity within our Development Department for a highly organised and motivated individual to join the team. The function of the Development Manager (Patrons & Individual Giving) is to Manage and develop the NGS portfolio of trust and foundation prospects, identifying, cultivating and leading on approaches to solicit major support for capital campaigns, public programme and NGS projects.
It is essential to be able to demonstrate a track record of securing major support from trusts, foundations and legacy pledges and sustaining a portfolio of prospects.
The National Galleries of Scotland have an exciting programme of major capital projects in progress and the successful applicant will be heavily involved in the fundraising to support these campaigns.
NGS have a lively and diverse programme of exhibitions and activities across all our sites in Edinburgh as well as a range of national and international partnerships. The Development Manager will help drive the funding for these programmes, particularly looking for new areas of support.
Experience in IT and in particular use of databases and an informed interest in culture and visual arts would also be desirable.
