AMIS (Abused Men In Scotland) is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) raising awareness of men’s experience of domestic abuse and the need for greater recognition and support for men (and their children) affected by it. AMIS is Scotland’s only national helpline service specifically for men in this situation.
Since 2010 AMIS has offered confidential support, information and signposting to men experiencing domestic abuse. We support any man aged 16+, including individuals who identify as men, regardless of ethnic origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, or any other attribute. AMIS also advocates for male victims through training, education, media, and engages with policy makers through meetings, fora and consultations.
Support is offered by telephone, email and virtual one to one meeting. The service is being developed to include online chat and may later include other platforms.
We are launching a new ‘Local Hero’ project whereby outreach volunteers in up to fifteen local authorities will be recruited, trained and supported by this post holder working closely with our services manager.
Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme will be required for the successful candidate.
This post will be funded by the Tudor Trust for a period of two years initially, with the term to be extended subject to further funding being secured.
Main Purpose of job:
To recruit, train, retain, support and co-ordinate Local Hero volunteers. Recruit, support and co-ordinate volunteer Helpline Support Officers and to support and facilitate communication with fundraising volunteers who take part in national fundraising events like the Kilt Walk.

We are looking for a new treasurer to help lead the charity through a new phase of development which will see greater stability, increased capacity and new services to better support those who need our services.
We are pleased to report that recently secured funding from the Tudor Trust, National Lottery Community Fund, and the Scottish Government’s Victim at the Centre Fund has effectively tripled AMIS’s turnover, and potential impact, for the next three years.
As an expanding organization we have engaged with the Cranfield Trust to help us bring additional skills and expertise to the board; building our team to meet the demands of our new situation.
Ths is an exciting time for a new treasurer to join a committed team, and guide our new projects to maximise the very real difference AMIS can make to the lives of men across Scotland who experience domesic or partner abuse, and to their families.
The successful candidate will ideally be familiar with XERO and charity sector accounting.
Remuneration
The role of treasurer is a voluntary position although reasonable expenses for travel, etc, may be claimed.
Location
The head office of AMIS is located in Dalkeith. Meetings may also be held elsewhere or via Zoom using a hybrid flexible working model.
Time commitment
Currently eight or nine board meetings per year (including an AGM). The next AGM will take place in December 2023. The treasurer is expected to communicate regularly with the CEO and is responsible for:
• controlling and accounting for the organisation’s finances
• issuing receipts for cash received, keeping records of cash paid out, and being a counter signatory to any major banking transaction
• overseeing bookkeeping
• presenting financial reports, raising issues and answering questions at regular meetings and the AGM
• liaising with the auditors or financial examiners for the annual review of accounts
• ensuring statutory returns are made to any relevant regulators

We would particularly like to hear from potential trustees with communications/ social media or finance experience; but we always welcome applications from candidates from all walks of life, regardless of background or work experience. Previous experience of being a trustee is not necessary.

Main Responsibilities

• Set and maintain AMIS’s vision, mission and values.
• Develop direction, strategy and planning.
• Ensure AMIS has the structure and resources for its work.
• Establish policies and procedures to govern organisational activity, including guidance for the board, volunteers and staff.
• Establish systems for reporting and monitoring.
• Manage risk and ensure compliance and accountability with the governing document, external regulators and the law.
• Make certain that the financial affairs of AMIS are conducted properly and are accurately reported.

The Helpline Support Officer (HSO) will
• provide high quality, responsive and accessible long term, short-term and crisis support to male survivors of domestic abuse, their friends, family and related professionals by telephone, online and by email.
• ensure that risk and safety are assessed and supported in an ongoing way throughout contacts, in line with organisational policy and practice.
• collaborate and work with other internal and external partners to develop AMIS’ systems and services.
• adhere to client support policy and protocol while accurately maintaining helpline administrative systems and engage in team meetings, group supervisions sessions, and personal development support.

• Year 1: £23,100 pro rata for 19 hours - £12,540,
• Year 2: £24,233 pro rata for 19 hours - £13,155
• Year 3: £24,507 pro rata for 19 hours - £13,304
Contract: 3-year fixed contract, including 3 months’ probationary period
Working hours: General office hours with some evening /weekend work as required
Annual Leave: 24 days plus 12 statutory days (pro rata).
