The Post

The purpose of this role is to develop, deliver and grow a pipeline of events which raised funds for the charity – these include those we organise, those larger events which we participate in, and those smaller events organised by supporters. We also wish to build up our Corporate partnerships for these events as well as other activity.

About Cancer Support Scotland

Cancer Support Scotland has been the wellbeing champion for those affected by cancer for over 40 years – not only for those diagnosed, but their loved ones and carers too.

We deliver high-quality counselling, complementary therapy and stress management services to promote mental and physical wellbeing and to enable those affected by cancer to continue to live the most active life possible in their community.

All the services we provide are free of charge to help reduce health inequalities, and in the last year we have been able to offer more than 3,350 appointments. However, demand for our services is rising and we rely heavily on fundraising, donations, and legacies to continue our work in supporting people at this critical time.

As the charity was originally started as a support group, we still pride ourselves on offering a drop-in centre for anyone affected by cancer, with free tea, coffee, cakes and Wi-Fi. This provides a group setting for those affected by cancer to come together, defeat loneliness and remain resilient, while encouraging individuals to champion their experiences to help others.

The Post:

The Head of Fundraising & Communications forms part of the Charity’s senior leadership team, responsible for the development and delivery of the charity’s strategy. The post holder will be a strategic thinker and hands-on practitioner who will maximise fundraising income by developing, executing, and managing fundraising across identified income streams to ensure long term and sustainable income growth.

The role will provide excellent leadership, direction and support for Cancer Support Scotland’s financial objectives. As well as leading on embedding a relational fundraising approach and ensuring high quality donor stewardship, the role will also have strategic oversight Cancer Support Scotland’s communication output and income generation with the expectation for growth each financial year.

This individual will be primarily responsible for all volunteer recruitment, induction, ongoing support, activities, along with the design and dissemination of volunteer newsletters and policies. This individual will be key in supporting our service volunteers across the country. The successful candidate will also take on some HR administrative duties.

The Post:

In this role you will effectively lead, deliver and grow a robust pipeline of Trust & Foundations income. You will lead in the development of a Trust & Foundations fundraising strategy that engages, retains, and reactivates funders and deliver a best-in-class stewardship experience. You will use relationship building and strategic planning to increase and secure multi-year funding for Cancer Support Scotland.

You will manage all Trusts and Foundations applications; via tailored approaches and relationship building, you will also be responsible for report writing and keeping funders up to date of the impact of their gifts via bespoke Case Studies and hosting visits at our centre. You will report to the Fundraising Manager and together build a first-class journey for all key funders to secure vital income for the organisation now and in the future.

The Post:

The purpose of this role to deliver and grow a variety of fundraising activity across the country to allow us to continue to support people affected by cancer across Scotland. This will be achieved through supporter led activity, virtual fundraising, online fundraising and managing corporate partners in line with the Cancer Support Scotland fundraising strategy. This role will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong digital & online content across various platforms to raise awareness and drive fundraising income. You will be required to develop, manage and promote fundraising events whilst working to achieve monthly fundraising income.

The post holder will be required to work across all aspects of community events fundraising, working with individual fundraisers as well as organising signature events such as our annual Lunch & Christmas Fayre and stewarding supporters taking part in mass participation events such as The Kitlwalk and Great Scottish Run. You will be an intrinsic part of the Cancer Support Scotland Fundraising Team who work closely with the Fundraising Manager to achieve our core objectives and income targets. In this role you will be highly proactive, empathetic and driven to support our services through:

  • Development and coordination of Peer Support Groups; supporting the Coping with Change programme participants to set up, facilitate and maintain their own Peer Support Groups. Offering support, signposting and referrals where appropriate.
  • Development, recruitment, training and support the Coping with Change & ‘Here for You’ volunteers, providing opportunities for those we support to participate in service development and delivery.
  • Taking part in networking opportunities including reaching out to local communities, businesses and groups helping Cancer Support Scotland reach people affected by cancer.
  • Opportunities to support improvement in our long-term evaluation methods for both services.

You will report to the Service Manager, working closely with the Wellbeing Facilitators, ‘Here for You’ Befriender Volunteers and those we support to deliver a highly effective Coping with Change and befriending service to help more people live well with cancer.
