The postholder will be responsible for recruiting, training and supporting volunteers who provide advice services by phone, email, at the CAB and in community locations and those that carry out other tasks to support the work of the CAB

Experience of recruiting, training and supporting volunteers and of working (paid or unpaid) in an advice or information service is important, as is understanding of good practice and the legal aspects of volunteering. Effective verbal and written communication and commitment to the mission, aims and teamwork ethos of Dalkeith CAB are essential.

Investing in Communities is a Scottish Government funded joint initiative of Midlothian Voluntary Action, Volunteer Midlothian and Dalkeith Citizens Advice Bureau that aims to improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of people in the Central Dalkeith and Woodburn areas through information, advice, learning and practical action.

The postholder is responsible for collaborating with partner organisations to develop, deliver and evaluate actions to achieve project aims. In particular, this includes advice and information provision for those in or at risk of financial hardship and building skills and knowledge of local people so they can make informed life and financial decisions.

Up to date understanding of Scottish and UK benefits system and experience of providing advice and information (paid or unpaid) to people experiencing disadvantage are essential. Postholder must hold City and Guilds Level 3 Energy Awareness Award, or be willing to work towards this as part of the role.

Can you help us make Dalkeith a stronger, fairer community?

Dalkeith CAB seeks two additional members for its Board to provide strategic leadership and support. Commitment to the CAB vision and values is a must. Experience of the third sector and/or advice-giving is an advantage.

The Board meets bi-monthly (currently via video) and Trustees are asked to commit 4-6 hours per month to the charity. Training is provided and out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed. Trustees should live, work or have a similar connection with Midlothian.

Income Maximisation Officer – Outreach

The post holder will deliver part of the Income Maximisation service of Dalkeith Citizens Advice Bureau. The service will provide information and support for claiming benefits and entitlements to help prevent vulnerable people falling into financial hardship. The role will involve direct assistance to people at risk. The role will also involve offering support and training to generalist advisers in the team so they can support clients more effectively.

Services will be delivered through Outreach sessions in local community settings and, occasionally, through visits to people in their homes.
