Since 1996, Foundation Scotland has distributed significant funding to charities and community groups across the country, creating happier, fairer and more sustainable communities. We support philanthropists to help their personal giving make the most difference, work with donors to invest in community action, and work alongside communities to ensure that local funds are distributed by communities themselves. Foundation Scotland is looking for an interim Grants Assessor to join us on a six month fixed term contract. In this role, you’ll review grant applications from charities and community organisations, explore the evidence behind each proposal and assess whether projects are well planned, financially sound and capable of creating meaningful impact.

You’ll balance careful analysis with clear communication, spend time examining budgets, governance and safeguarding information, speaking with applicants where further detail is needed, and producing concise assessment reports. Your evidence based recommendations will help ensure funding decisions are fair, consistent and focused on the needs of communities.

About the role

  • Assessing grant applications consistently and proportionately, considering organisational strength, community need, project design and potential impact.
  • Review budgets, governance, safeguarding and other due diligence information.
  • Write clear assessment reports and make well-reasoned funding recommendations.
  • Communicate professionally with applicants to clarify information and manage assessments to agreed timescales.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience assessing funding applications, grants or similar decision-making processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and confidence reviewing budgets and financial information.
  • Excellent written communication, sound judgement and close attention to detail.
  • An understanding of Scotland’s voluntary and community sector and the ability to build positive stakeholder relationships.
