NEDAC is a community based drugs/alcohol service covering the North West Sector of Edinburgh.  We provide a low threshold counselling, advice and psychosocial support service to people experiencing problems with theirs or another’s drugs/alcohol use.

Mental Health and Addictions Worker

We are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic mental health and addictions worker to join our team and help develop our service. This is primarily a full time 34hr post however we will consider 2 x 17hr part time posts or a possible secondment. This is an officeless post.

  • To provide outreach and home based support to clients who experience difficulties engaging with and/or being retained in treatment services due to their complex and multiple needs.
  • To provide a holistic service to alleviate the distress and suffering caused by mental health and substance use, through the provision of a personalised service to individuals, their families and friends within the North West sector of Edinburgh.
  • To highlight the impact of living with mental health issues combined with substance use and alleviate the difficulties encountered when attempting to access treatment services and to work in partnership with those services to promote ways of working with this marginalised group.

The ideal candidate will have experience in assertive outreach, holistic assessment processes, offering therapeutic interventions to individuals with combined mental health and substance use and a commitment to working towards recovery within a harm reduction model. Possession of a relevant qualification in Community Education, Health Care or Social Work is desirable.

The post is subject to enhanced Protection of Vulnerable Groups clearance.

This post is funded to August 2026 initially, with the potential to be ongoing.
