Administrator – Borders Care Voice Learning Network

  • Part time
  • £21,259 – £22,893 pro-rata
  • Galashiels
  • Closing 31st January 2024

Who we are

We are a charity based in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, established in 1991. A small, friendly team, we take pride in promoting equality and change in health and social care.

Our membership includes service providers, people with lived experience of health and social care, and unpaid carers. We are committed to empowering their voices to help improve services and outcomes for people with health and social care needs.

We value and respect our employees and those we work with and are dedicated to working in partnership with others.

We also provide free training to people who work or volunteer in health and social care and targeted at the third and independent sectors, as well as unpaid carers. This takes place via our Borders Care Voice Learning Network project, which began in 2009.

Who we are looking for

You will have experience of business or administration work, and ideally knowledge of training in health and social care.

You will be skilled in running learning/training programmes or other programmes of events. You’ll have experience in office management and working on reception or as a first point of contact for an organisation.

You will be able to design and operate administrative and booking systems. An experienced communicator, you will liaise and clearly communicate with partners and the public to plan, deliver and promote our training programme. You’ll have excellent IT skills and knowledge of all Microsoft Office programmes, as well as experience of online evaluation and data platforms.

Working as part of a team, you’ll also be able to work on your own initiative, planning and delivering your duties while responding to requests as they arrive.

Preferably, you’ll have worked with people with social care needs, including those with lived experience of long-term conditions, and with the statutory and third sectors. The ability to organise groups and meetings is part of the role, and you will have a friendly, approachable and empathetic manner.

What you will be doing

You will ensure the smooth and efficient running of our Learning Network and its activities by:

  • supporting the planning, delivery, promotion and evaluation of the Learning Network training programme, which has been operating since 2009
  • issuing regular training updates
  • providing excellent customer service as a point of contact for people contacting the Learning Network and Borders Care Voice
  • helping the staff and trainer team with all administrative requirements, including the preparation of training materials
  • supporting holiday / illness cover for the administration team
  • overseeing the training budget and costing each quarterly programme
  • ensuring all activities are conducted safely, with best use of resources.

Full job description

What you will get

We offer a flexible working policy to support the work/life balance of our employees and enable hybrid working, where possible. Work at our office is required regularly and you will also need to work flexibly to accommodate our training programme.

The salary for the role is £21,259 – £22,893 pro rata (actual salary for 18 hours £10,933 – £11,773). You will get 6 weeks annual leave, increasing after five years, as well as public and bonus Christmas holidays. There’s a generous pension contribution (8%) and enhanced sickness pay. We operate a Time off in Lieu (TOIL) system for managing your weekly hours.

There will be opportunities for your own learning and development and coaching/mentoring will be available. The post is currently funded by Scottish Borders Council. The contract operates on a 12-month basis, but renewal is ongoing.
