Campaigns and Communications Officer

  • Full time
  • £32,500
  • Remote: Home-based, Scotland (near Edinburgh preferred)
  • Closing 19th October 2026

We’re looking for a campaigning communicator who shares our purpose – bringing about a Scotland where every animal is freed from suffering.

We have a large supporter base whose priorities include ending factory farming, phasing out animal testing and creating stronger protections for wild animals. You would have an amazing opportunity to activate our supporters, communicate our message, and build momentum to help drive real change.

You would be joining a small team of friendly, passionate and dedicated professionals. We are home-based but regularly meet online and usually once a month in-person.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Developing and driving priority campaigns, in consultation with policy and fundraising colleagues, and at times in collaboration with external partners
  • Managing email communications with supporters via the Engaging Networks platform, along with the creation of e-actions to gather mass support
  • Pitching comments and stories to the media to raise greater awareness of animal welfare issues and ensure our share of voice
  • Designing and delivering engaging social media content that reaches new audiences

Benefits:

In addition to the £32,500 salary and a 4 day working week, we offer a pension with 5% employer contribution and a total of 29.5 days annual leave.

As well as a strong sense of purpose, we have a culture of kindness at OneKind where we prioritise staff wellbeing, offering flexibility around working patterns and encouraging personal development opportunities.

We are also mindful of the need to give time to reset after big campaign moments. Campaigning can be intense and communications can be fast-paced, and we’re only at our best if we’re feeling fresh.

About us:

OneKind is Scotland’s animal campaigns charity. We’ve been making progress for animals since 1911. We channel our donors’ compassion so we can deliver research, advocacy and campaigns. We bring about changes in legislation and regulation. Our recent successes include securing a pause in the guga hunt, the ban on snares, the end of greyhound racing and the ban on glue traps.

About you:

We’d love to hear from you if you have some of the following qualities:

  • Creative ideas for campaigning
  • Good at working with internal and external colleagues to drive an idea forward
  • Optimising e-mail newsletters for engagement
  • Delivering e-actions that generate engagement
  • Comfortable using website tools to publish pages and blogs
  • Confident in securing media coverage
  • Confident in giving media interviews
  • Good at creating social media and adapting to trends
  • Good at writing in a clear and compelling way for external audiences
  • An understanding of how campaigns, political advocacy and fundraising are connected
