The Scottish Information Commissioner enforces and promotes freedom of information (FOI) law.
Joining one of two teams of FOIOs, you’ll provide essential support to the Commissioner in fulfilling his responsibilities which will include the following:
• Investigating appeals made to the Commissioner
• Drafting decisions on behalf of the Commissioner
• Responding to information requests and subject access requests (relating to casework)
• Promoting good practice to the public and public authorities with advice and guidance about FOI law
You’ll bring:
• Work experience in a relevant discipline
• Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to write for, and speak to, a range of audiences
• Strong analytical and research skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong time-management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Education to degree level (or equivalent level of skill or knowledge)

• Work location in St Andrews, Fife – it will be a contractual requirement to attend the office premises when required to do so, but hybrid working will be possible

Working in small team, you will be responsible for a range of administration and support tasks, the smooth functioning and provision of the operational systems of the Commissioner and providing a support service to the public and to colleagues.

The Scottish Information Commissioner is an independent officeholder whose role is to promote and enforce the freedom of information regime established by the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004.
This is a demanding post which has a very high media and public profile. We are looking for a talented individual with a track record of operating at a senior level and delivering results. You will have extensive knowledge of a freedom of information regime and excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
This is a full-time appointment for a fixed term of 6 years, attracts a starting salary of £77,260 and is pensionable.
The Commissioner is based in St Andrews, Fife.
