Glasgow ESOL Forum is a charity based in Glasgow that supports asylum seekers, refugees, and New Scots to learn English. We deliver SQA accredited classes as well as less formal community-based learning opportunities. This is an exciting time as we develop a new strategic plan and look forward to the recruitment of a Chief Executive Officer, and a period of consolidation and change.
We are looking for people to join our Board to bring their skills, expertise, and perspectives. We particularly welcome applicants from underrepresented groups and those with lived experience of ESOL services.
We would like to further strengthen our Board in the areas of finance, income generation and fundraising, and marketing and communications. Most importantly, we want applicants who are passionate about what we do and have a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
The commitment now we are looking for is around 3 hours per month, preparing for and attending our Board meetings. We meet annually for a strategy and training day. We are currently reviewing the frequency of our meetings.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with an extensive experience of teaching ESOL for the position of development worker for our ESOL in the Community Project. Your role will be to develop partnerships, support sessional ESOL tutors and support the delivery of SQA accredited and non-accredited ESOL courses in Glasgow. You will develop our community-based ESOL provision by maintaining and developing good relationships with our partners, our tutors and our learners.
All applicants will be educated to degree level, or equivalent and have an ESOL qualification (CELTA or equivalent) and have experience in teaching adults, both in-person and online.

The project will work with adults learning English who wish to develop numeracy skills. The provision will include small groups and individual provision.

Development Worker – Volunteer Tutor Project
Our Volunteer Tutor Project recruits, trains and supports ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Language) tutors to work with disadvantaged adults who have no or insufficient access to suitable tuition.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with an extensive experience of teaching ESOL for the position of development worker for our Volunteer Tutor Project. Your role will be recruit, train and support volunteers in Glasgow ESOL Forum’s Volunteer Tutor Project. You will continue to develop a Scottish network of co-ordinators of ESOL volunteers. Your experience will sustain our volunteer-run, community-based ESOL, provision by maintaining good relationships with our partners, our volunteers and our learners.

Glasgow ESOL Forum are currently recruiting for new Directors and a Chair to join our Board. The organisation is undergoing a period of significant growth and we would welcome applications from individuals who would like to support us during this exciting time.
We are particularly interested in hearing from those with skills and experience in one of the following areas:
The Board meets every 6 weeks, with some additional sub-committee meetings to work on specific issues. We ask for a minimum commitment of 1 year and expect board members to be able to commit approximately 5 hours per month. The chair of the board is required to attend additional meetings and prepare the agenda for the board meetings.
