We offer a unique opportunity, lived experience engagement is central to the evaluation and development of adult mental health services. Within this role you would engage with people currently receiving treatment and support in both inpatient and community settings across the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area. This work ensures that their voices are heard strategically.

Mental Health Network (Greater Glasgow) is a network of people and their carers with a lived experience of mental health problems. We were established as an independent charity in 2001. We were set up by a group of people with a lived experience of mental ill health who wanted a greater say in how they were treated while using mental health services and how they could better shape these services for others in the future.

We require an Engagement Worker to join our team. The post holder must be suitably experienced and be able to demonstrate the skills necessary in engaging with service users and carers within adult mental health services. This engagement work will take place in both community and inpatient settings.

The principal role will be to increase and improve the capacity for effective and influential service user and carer involvement in the planning, decision making and implementation of adult mental health services within the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.

Applicants for the post must be able to build strong relationships within local communities and be able to work flexibly in a busy and challenging environment. They must be able to work on their own initiative as well as being part of a small team.

We also engage directly with people currently receiving treatment and support for their mental ill health and their carers in order to allow them to comment on such services.

We require an experience Capacity Building Worker for the organisation. The post holder must be suitably experienced and be able to demonstrate commitment to capacity building/development of service user and carer involvement. They must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a diverse community at all times.

The postholder will facilitate groups which will increase and improve the opportunity for effective service user and carers involvement in the planning, decision making and implementation adult mental health services within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS area.

The postholder will also be responsible for delivering our weekly Creative Writing Group, weekly Peer Support Cafe and monthly Peer Support Wellness Group

The Role

Our Trustees are responsible for:

  • Setting strategic direction.
  • Providing leadership to staff and volunteers.
  • Ensuring effective governance, including financial and risk management, and compliance with relevant legislation and good practice.

Mental Health Network Greater Glasgow is seeking to strengthen its skill set on the Board. To this end we are seeking new Trustees. We are particularly looking for individuals with skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Human Resources
  • Fundraising
  • Communications
  • Member engagement

This is a voluntary, unpaid position. The Board currently meets eight times per year, with additional subgroups meeting in between. The majority of board meetings take place face-to-face in the evenings in the Network’s office. Trustees are actively engaged in meetings, contributing ideas and sharing knowledge. We’ll provide full training and support so no previous Board experience is necessary.
