Scottish Amateur Swimming Association Limited (trading as Scottish Swimming) is a company limited by guarantee. Scottish Swimming is seeking a committed and strategic leader with a passion for sport in Scotland to serve as Chairperson of the Board of Directors. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, sound judgement, and a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing sport, guiding the organisation’s strategic direction and governance.
As Chairperson of the Board of Directors you will contribute to the strategic running of the Company and focus on the following specific tasks, in addition to the tasks outlined for a Board Director:
• Provide mentoring and leadership support to the Chief Executive.
• Oversee the Chief Executive’s performance, including leading the annual appraisal process.
• Ensure robust corporate governance, covering finance, legal, risk, and safe sport matters.
• Address urgent issues escalated by the Chief Executive.
• Conduct annual Board Director appraisals and agree objectives aligned with business needs.
• Develop and maintain key external relationships in partnership with the Chief Executive.
This is a pivotal leadership role suited to a motivated and experienced individual ready to make a lasting impact on aquatics in Scotland.
The Chairperson is expected to attend:
• A minimum of 5 Board meetings per year (normally held in Stirling)
• The Annual General Meeting (late September)
• Two Council meetings per year
• Occasional events or meetings as required
The Chairperson may be asked to represent Scottish Swimming as a Director on the Aquatics Great Britain Board, attending up to six meetings per year (usually in England, with overnight travel).
