Community Café Volunteer Manager

We are recruiting a Café Manager to manage the RNIB Community Café in Edinburgh.

As part of the role, you will lead a small and robust team of volunteers in successfully and profitably managing the operation of the Café.

As Manager, you will also oversee group activities in the building and be a source of information and signposting to community members and partners. The Manager will develop useful links with external organisations such as local suppliers, businesses and community groups, adhering to the most recent government guidance.

Ideally, you should hold Level 2 Food Safety Certification (however, this is not essential as training can be given).

The Manager and team will directly provide support to blind and partially sighted people, ensuring that the Café acts as a resource for community members, campaigns teams and fundraising teams.

RNIB is pleased to announce this exciting opportunity to join RNIB’s Eye Care Support Services (ECSS) as a Service Manager.

In this role, you will be a vital member of the management team providing operational leadership and line management support to Eye Care Liaison Officers (ECLOs) and manage all aspects of operational delivery in our ECLO Services across Scotland. You will also participate in the strategic and business planning processes, working with key internal and external key stakeholders.

Working with the ECSS Management team, you will support and maintain key relationships across health and social care to ensure that RNIB can reach more people with sight loss earlier. Working across RNIB functions, you will also manage key internal relationships to support the delivery of our service to ensure patients access support at a time which is right for them.

Supporting ECLOs and services across Scotland and other UK services as required, this role will involve regular local and occasional national travel, including occasional overnight stays.

About you

You will have a vocational qualification in management, advice and guidance, or experience in successfully managing information and advice services. In addition to this, you will be capable of influencing and establishing relationships with key stakeholders involved in health and social care.

You will have excellent people management skills and the ability to motivate and manage a geographically dispersed team, demonstrating an open and transparent management style, with a can-do approach to motivate and inspire your team.

You will be experienced in producing reports, delivering presentations, meeting Key Performance Indicators and a proficient user of Microsoft Office packages and CRM systems.

Specialist Knowledge, Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Experience of influencing external stakeholders to attract service funding to support projects and service development.
  • Experience of developing effective partnerships and managing key internal and external relationships.
  • Experience of managing change within teams, driving new service initiatives to demonstrate value of service and engagement across ECLO teams and with key internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing remote teams across multiple locations, demonstrating a supportive and clear leadership style.
  • Demonstrable experience of financial and budgetary management.
