Communications Officer (Maternity Cover)

Befriending Networks is the country’s leading resource on befriending. In the last few years the delivery of our communications strategy has seen our profile and membership grow, with a refreshed website and increased engagement across multiple platforms. We are looking for an experienced communications worker to join the team on a maternity cover basis. As our Communications Officer you would be responsible for managing our website and social media platforms, co-ordinating campaigns and delivering a high standard of external communications.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic person who will be able to pick up and continue to develop our communications function during the cover period.

Befriending Networks is the country’s leading resource on befriending. In the last few years our membership and turn over has increased due to growth in England, supporting English Befriending services. We are delighted that we are now able to expand our core support team and create a dedicated Finance and Administration Officer role. We are looking for an experienced finance officer to join the team on a permanent basis. As our Finance and Administration Officer you would be responsible for delivering all our finance functions and providing a small amount of administrative support to the team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic person who will be able to pick up and continue to develop our internal finance and administration processes in order to support the continued growth and development of the organisation.

Due to the retirement of our Scottish membership officer we are looking for a creative enthusiastic individual to join our team.

The post holder will work alongside other membership officers based around the UK and the wider national team based in Scotland. You would deliver services to our Scottish Members including; providing information and support, responding to enquiries, provision of resources, facilitating learning and networking events, promoting and delivering Befriending Networks wider services.

Critical to your success will be a genuine passion for befriending as well as a commitment to striving for excellence.

Befriending Networks is a charity with a vision of a society that values befriending, recognises its importance and provides befriending support to everyone who needs it.

We are an intermediary that connects and supports 390 befriending services and projects across the UK and are the country’s leading resource on befriending. In the last few years our profile and membership has grown significantly.

We are seeking a high calibre individual to lead our team. As the new Chief Executive the successful individual will shape and deliver on our strategic plan, own and manage our fundraising and income generation process, as well as ensuring the maintenance of good charity governance and compliance.

To be successful in the post, you will demonstrate an outstanding track record in leadership roles in the third sector, have a keen understanding and track record of successful fundraising, be able to deliver operational excellence on all fronts, and have a passion for befriending.

*We have an office base in Edinburgh and dependent upon your location and preferences the following options are available; office based Edinburgh, hybrid working between the home and office or homebased if you live outside reasonable travel to Edinburgh. You would be expected to have a regular presence in Edinburgh/Scotland.

Befriending Networks is the growing network of organisations for the befriending sector with over 370 members across the UK. We are looking for an experienced Communications Officer to join our team.

We need someone proactive, flexible, creative, and who has a ‘can do’ mindset. You will be a team player, willing to get stuck in, and in return you will be joining an organisation which values its people and offers a supportive working environment.

The Communications Officer is responsible for leading on a range of communications functions supporting the work of Befriending Networks.

Focus areas for this post are:

  • Developing and delivery of all aspects of our Communications Strategy
  • Production of engaging and accurate digital content for our sector, building an online community to be achieved using social media, newsletters, and our website.
  • Coordination of National Befriending Week - a UK wide campaign which raises the profile and understanding of befriending.
  • Project managing digital and communications upgrades, which will include replacing our website and the development of brand guidance.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about social change and creating impact in communities. You should believe in the power of befriending and the importance of social connection. Delivering our work contributes to the reduction in inequalities, advancing positive outcomes for individuals and community, and increased connection and confidence. You will be motivated by creating and supporting a connected membership community.
