Sea the Change
Sea the Change

Charity registered in Scotland SC050664

Sea the Change was established in 2018. We began as a group of dedicated volunteers, encouraging our community outdoors to enjoy and protect the environment. As we developed, demand for our services increased to such an extent that we now employ a small team. This has enabled us to grow further and deliver more impactful projects.

About Sea the Change

Sea the Change is a Berwickshire-based charity working to create happier, healthier and more sustainable communities along our coastlines. We run local projects and campaigns that connect communities to coastlines, reduce waste, promote sustainable living, and protect our natural environment.

Our vision

Our vision is to create happy, healthy and sustainable communities, where everyone can enjoy, value and help protect the places where land meets sea.

Our mission

Our mission is to connect communities to coastlines by delivering events, activities and campaigns so we can all enjoy and protect our natural environment, now and for future generations.

Our values

  • Community: We put people and place at the heart of what we do, working alongside local communities to shape our projects and priorities.
  • Sustainability: We champion small, achievable changes in everyday life that add up to a big difference for the environment.
  • Inclusion: We remove barriers so that people of all ages and abilities can access and enjoy the coast, for example, through initiatives like Beach Wheelchairs and Cycle for Change.
  • Collaboration: We build strong partnerships with local groups, networks and stakeholders to maximise impact across Berwickshire and the wider Borderlands.
  • Integrity: We are accountable, transparent and evidence-led in how we use resources, measure impact and care for our natural environment.

The Role

This interim leadership role is a key opportunity to guide Sea the Change through the next phase of its journey. As the senior staff member, you will oversee day-to-day operations while placing a strong emphasis on fundraising, income development, and securing future funding to ensure the charity’s long-term sustainability. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees, lead a small team, manage ongoing projects, and represent the organisation to funders, partners, and the wider community.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead & Stabilise: Provide confident, values-led leadership, working with the Board to maintain momentum and organisational stability during the interim period.
  • Fundraising & Income Generation
  • Project Oversight: Ensure environmental and community projects are delivered effectively, on time, and within budget.
  • Partnerships & Profile: Represent Sea the Change with funders, partners, media, and at events to raise awareness and credibility.
  • Financial Management: Oversee budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure transparency and good governance.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven leadership or management experience, ideally within the charity, environmental, or community sector
  • Strong experience in fundraising, grant applications, and funder reporting
  • A passion for environmental sustainability and community-led change
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Understanding of local environmental challenges and community-based solutions
