We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual who will play a key role in developing and delivering a program of support services and activities for Care Experienced children and young people across West Dunbartonshire.

The main aim of the role is to ensure Y sort it plays an integral role in supporting Care Experienced children & young people with their school, family and community life. We aim to build on the aspirations care experienced young people via The Promise, along with our local partners within West Dunbartonshire Promise Keepers, an established group of stakeholders.

You will be directly managed by Y sort it Head of Services & Development. The postholder will be responsible for the management of the Y sort it Care Experienced Staff & Volunteer Team.

Purpose and Objectives

The postholder will provide critical support to Y sort it, schools, and communities to drive West Dunbartonshire’s Integrated Childrens Services Plan for care experience children and young people. You will lead and co-ordinate the team and activities required to do so. With support from West Dunbartonshire Education, Promise Scotland / Corra Foundation and Inspiring Scotland / Intandem - West Dunbartonshire is one of eleven local authorities in Scotland to adopt the approach of Intandem Mentoring model and a carryout a Test of Change initiative with the aim to develop a Supportive School Structure (Right to Education) for Care Experienced children and young people across West Dunbartonshire.

The post holder will have a primary focus on developing & evaluating the impact of learning opportunities, to raise the attainment of care experienced young people and support our established Intandem Volunteer Mentoring program, by focusing on children and young people aged 8 to 14 who are subject to a compulsory supervision order (or at-risk of becoming so), living at home or in kinship arrangements (ages 8-16 years).

You will be responsible for leading, supporting and managing a team of staff and volunteers, and must demonstrable recent knowledge and experience of the Promise, GIRFEC (Getting it Right for Every Child), UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child). Experience of monitoring and evaluation frameworks, writing funding bids, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a Leadership & Management Team.

Requirements

You will have a degree or equivalent in Social Work, Community Education, or in the field of Health or Health Promotion, or relevant / equivalent experience.

Responsibilities:

You will have experience of Community Development approach, relevant experience in a community based/voluntary role with children, young people and/ or families. You will have an awareness/experience of primary prevention approaches and experience of developing and implementing action plans. You will have excellent leadership, oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, good interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders to bring people together. You will have good assessment and reporting skills with the ability to work with members of the public, to work without constant supervision, and meet deadlines, to identify and apply for appropriate funding and the ability to work flexible hours.

Please note, a driving license is essential for this role.

This data is then fed back to local and organised community groups who then create plans of action to create better environments for those young people to grow up in. Young Carers Service Manager (Maternity Leave Cover)

Y sort it Young Carers Service supports young carers aged between 8-18yrs across West Dunbartonshire. The role of the Young Carer Service Manager will be to further develop our service, responding to young carers needs across West Dunbartonshire.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage, coordinate & develop the delivery of quality support services for young carers through a variety of approaches including group activities, 1-2-1 targeted support and respite opportunities
  • Manage & coordinate the young carers team to provide support for young people on a one to one basis and support them in making informed choices around issues relating to their caring role and as a young person.

  • Ensure support for carers is reviewed ensuring ongoing provision of information and contact so changes in need are identified and the most appropriate support offered.
  • Identify where group support, including youth clubs, workshops, training and learning, will address carers’ needs, and plan and deliver such support, working as appropriate with colleagues and volunteers to maximise outcomes for carers
  • Carry out development work and delivery of further information and support based projects for young carers throughout West Dunbartonshire as identified by Y sort it according to the needs of young people.
  • Ensure support for carers is reviewed ensuring ongoing provision of information and contact so changes in need are identified and the most appropriate support offered
  • Work with schools (inc primary, secondary,) to identify and support Young Carers; this may include developing, planning and delivering assemblies, attending school events to raise awareness of young carers with pupils and teaching staff, working with/supporting young carers; identifying link workers to help raise awareness of young carers in schools; encouraging schools to share good practices and experiences.
  • Develop a range of workshops and school/college drop ins and training; this may include sibling and carers workshops, peer mentor training as well as specific training identified.
  • In collaboration with colleagues, manage, develop and maintain a schedule of awareness and or promotion initiatives for young carers ie Young Carers Week
  • Work with colleagues and the young carers’ team to identify areas of unmet need, develop ideas and contribute to plans and funding options to address need.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and local services which may affect the lives of carers and/or impact our service
  • Ensure expenditure is maintained within budgetary constraints

Administration

  • Organise and manage your workload in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Provide direct Management, Support & Supervision for all staff and volunteers within the Young Carers Team including workplans.
  • Develop, deliver and procure training for staff & volunteers.
  • Support and co-ordinate Funding Grants applications for a range of initiatives.

SteetBikes Cycle Leader

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Streetbikes Cycle Leader who is passionate about cycling, developing and delivering quality, engaging & fun bike related activities for children & young people across West Dunbartonshire.

Your main role will be to work within the Youth Connections Team to develop and deliver an exciting and engaging bike rides and cycling programme including establishing weekly bikes ride sessions, which help achieve Y Sort It’s core values of support, connect and inspire.

As the StreetBikes Cycle Leader your role will be to promote, organise and deliver weekly bike rides and cycling related activities targeting young people aged 10-21 years who are interested in bike rides and cycling adventures. As Cycle Leader you will coordinate and encourage young people wishing to participate in cycle led rides, exploring the local community and beyond.

You will ensure our Streetbikes hub runs efficiently, including helping to maintain our fleet of bikes and cycling equipment, liaising with local partners. In addition you will be expected to contribute to the work of the wide organisation.

Cycle Leader Main Duties

  • To support the development and deliver a cycling programme including the establishment of weekly group ride sessions for young people & children.
  • Design and deliver a Streetbikes activity programme of cycle training aimed at young people and children.
  • To support children and young people’s involvement in the planning and delivery of Streetbikes
  • To plan, deliver and evaluate Streetbikes activities whilst improving their health and wellbeing, understanding of environmental issues, whilst exploring their local communities.
  • To maintain your knowledge of local services and partners, to ensure you can provide accurate information to young people.
  • To maintain up to date and accurate records of Streetbike sessions and any other cycling activities delivered.
  • To support the youth connections team in cleaning, maintaining and servicing any equipment used by the team, for example, fleet bicycles. Appropriate training to be provided to support this.
  • To carry out risk assessments of Streetbike activities prior to them taking place.
  • To understand and abide by the organisations policies and procedures, including Health & Safety, First Aid, Data Protection, Confidentiality and Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults.
  • Ensure non-discriminatory practices at all times in line with the organisations Equality and Diversity policy.
  • To work in partnership with key local organisations.

Your role as the Kinship Care Coordinator will focus on developing a programme of volunteer mentoring support for young people who are within Kinship Care. You will offer young people an opportunity to access a programme of support and activities appropriate to their needs contributing to closing the poverty-related attainment gap.

The programme will focus on providing support for children and young people aged 8 – 14 years old who are in formal Kinship Carer arrangements looked after by a family relative or close friend. Supporting them through the transitional stages, and the challenges that they may face within school and the community.

As the Kinship Care Coordinator you will play a vital role in helping children and young people develop goals and find ways to achieve them. You will be responsible for overall service coordination and development including working in partnership and liaising with key organisations.

Initially the programme will focus on providing mentoring for children and young people aged 8 – 14 years who are. Y sort it recognises a young person’s need to have at least one long term relationship with a positive adult role-model. The disruption looked after children face can make this difficult to achieve within a family setting.

Mentors play a vital role in helping young people become independent, develop goals and find ways to achieve them. As Kinship Care Volunteer Coordinator you will be responsible for recruitment, support and the motivation of volunteer mentors and overall service coordination. You’ll play a key role in changing young people’s lives for the better.

The focus in every mentoring relationship will be on developing the child, recognising and building their strengths, and providing support and encouragement to deal with difficult and challenging situations in their lives.

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities

  • Recruitment, induction and training of volunteer mentors
  • Providing on-going support and supervision for volunteer mentors
  • Assessment of mentees for their suitability to partake in the programme
  • Matching mentors to mentees
  • Devising a programme of activities for mentors and mentees
  • Ensuring that adequate safeguarding measures are in place for both mentors & mentees
  • Ensuring that adequate risk assessment & health and safety procedures are in place for the save provision of the service
  • Collating both qualitative and quantitative data as requested by Y sort it and Inspiring Scotland

Key Responsibilities

  • Service development responsibilities devising innovative approaches to service delivery ensuring that volunteers & young people gain maximum benefit from their contact with the intandem Kinship Care & Y sort it services.
  • Engage with young people in the development of projects and services to ensure that they are an integral and key part of the process
  • To take responsibility for assessing risk to the client and implementing child protection /vulnerable adult safeguarding procedures when necessary
  • To undertake training as part of continuing professional development
  • To lead discussion and presentations about Kinship Care mentoring to staff, partners and external agencies
  • To actively participate in line management, annual appraisal and line management.
  • To produce written reports as requested by your line manager or key working relationships
  • Develop & maintain a robust monitoring framework to capture evidence of outcomes
  • To contribute towards the design, delivery and evaluation of services
  • To contribute to the development of training resources reflecting the scope of the work
  • To adhere to all quality standards as set out in Y sort it policies and procedures and your discipline’s affiliated body. Provide support to enable young people to play a key role in West Dunbartonshire’s Youth Alliance and influence policy and decisions affecting their lives.

Administration

  • Organise and manage your workload in an effective and efficient manner.

  • Ensure availability diaries and timesheets for your own work, and those staff that you are supporting, are submitted weekly by the appropriate deadlines.
