We provide free and confidential information, support, counselling, and advocacy to any non-abusive person in Shetland, of any gender (age 13+), who has been affected by sexual violence at any time in their life. We are an intersectional feminist and trauma-skilled organisation, and the successful candidate will be supported to learn and grow in their own practice and values-base.
PLEASE NOTE: We are primarily aiming to recruit for a vacancy in our Counselling Service, and therefore we are first and foremost seeking to appoint a qualified Counsellor. Job Purpose
The post-holder will be primarily responsible for delivering The Compass Centre’s specialist Support Service to any non-abusive person in Shetland, of any gender (age 13+), who has been affected by sexual violence at any time in their life, including, rape, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, stalking, reproductive abuse, digital image abuse and other forms of sexual harm.
The post-holder will take an approach informed by an understanding of trauma, including complex trauma, as well as an understanding of intersectional feminism and gender-based violence. The post-holder will be required to work across the different functions of the service including referral and intake process, counselling service, helpline, phone/text/email support, endings, onward referral, and other collective responsibilities as required.

Role Purpose
The Board of Trustees have ultimate legal and financial responsibility for all activities of the organisation. They maintain an overview of policy and strategic direction rather than being involved in day-to-day operations. They may additionally be called upon for some recruitment and HR-related activities, as well as attending outreach events, and are encouraged to join team-building activities wherever possible. We are particularly looking to recruit for a Treasurer, so if you have a background in finance or business, please get in touch.

Hours:Variable according to the needs of the service. On average, post-training, one 2.5 hour meeting per month plus additional hours for specific responsibilities.

Job Purpose
Delivery of the National Sexual Violence Prevention Programme in Shetland
The post holder will lead on the delivery of the Rape Crisis Scotland National Sexual Violence Prevention Programme in schools and youth groups in Shetland, using a shared resource pack and evaluation framework coordinated by RCS. Regular training opportunities and a practitioners’ forum are provided as part of the programme. Delivery of Shetland Rape Crisis’ Activism Programme
The post holder will lead on local strategic approaches to sexual violence and gender-based violence in Shetland via the development, co-ordination, and facilitation of grassroots activism around these issues, giving our community a voice and empowering change. This includes volunteer coordination and facilitating BEE, Shetland Rape Crisis’ volunteer young activist group for young people aged 13-25, as well as taking a lead on campaigns and communications designed and fronted by SRC.

Job Purpose
• This project runs until June 2022 and has a focus on increasing Shetland Rape Crisis’ support capacity, the accessibility of the service, and its reach, for survivors of sexual violence in Shetland, and particularly for survivors from marginalised groups.
• The worker, in co-operation with the Service Manager and Staff Team at SRC, will develop and implement an Inclusion and Access Strategic Plan for the service.
• As part of improving access to support and capacity for delivery, a number of service development projects have been identified and these would be led by the new worker, alongside any other actions identified by the worker herself as part of the Inclusion and Access Strategic Plan. These are outlined in the recruitment pack.
Project Outcomes
• Improve access to support for survivors of sexual violence and their supporters.
• Proactively work to identify and overcome barriers to support.
• Engage and collaborate with survivors to identify and address their needs.
