Role

The postholder will be responsible for:

To research and identify reliable income through Trusts and Foundations applications to fund core and specific project costs and be an active member of the Fundraising Team.

To achieve its aims, Ardgowan Hospice must raise over £4 million in voluntary income per year. Charitable donations allow the organisation to provide high quality care services for those living with a life limiting illness, and their families. The Fundraising Team is responsible for ensuring this is achieved.

The post holder is directly responsible to the Fundraising Manager and the role will primarily be to research, identify and apply for Trusts, Grants, & Foundations as per direction from the Senior Management Team but will also be required to be involved in other key areas of activity within the Fundraising Team and wider Hospice teams to raise awareness of the work of Ardgowan Hospice, its charitable aims and the care services provided.

The Trust and Foundations Officer is expected to achieve an annual income target.

The role will also involve recruiting, supporting and working with volunteers and external partners.

This role does not have any direct staff reports.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy, Planning and Budgeting

  • Contribute to the overall Development Strategy, with specific focus on Trusts, Grants & Foundations.
  • Contribute to the planning, monitoring and management of the fundraising budget to maximise profit and return on investment and ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a donor development strategy to support the growth and lifetime value of the supporter base.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the sector and, in particular, with fundraising legislation and regulation, ensuring all fundraising activities are compliant and delivered in line with Ardgowan Hospice policies and code of conduct.

Trusts, Grants & Foundations

  • The post holder will be responsible for securing and managing income against a defined target from a variety of Trusts and Foundations and developing further relationships with potential funders.
  • A key part of this role will be working closely with the SMT to identify organisation needs that may require an application to be submitted.
  • Research prospective supporters and build relationships, working and updating the pipeline of key prospects aligned with the charity’s fundraising needs.
  • Maintain and develop the planning and delivery of an annual work programme of applications and reports to ensure income targets are met.
  • Working closely with clinical colleagues to develop high quality and inspiring large bids and reports that meet long-term plans to ensure applications stand a strong chance of success.
  • Develop and implement individual solicitation and stewardship plans for a portfolio of existing trusts and new prospects, to include charitable foundations, in the UK and internationally, through the development and implementation of a communication and stewardship programme.
  • Work closely with fundraising colleagues to track and report on prospect management activities, remaining supporter-focused and maximising opportunities to enrich and develop supporter journeys.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that all fundraising partnerships with charitable trusts achieve their maximum potential, and that the charity delivers on its commitment to funders.
  • Demonstrate accountability to donors, supporters and volunteers and operate at all times with openness, honesty and transparency and applying best practice and ensure that all prospect activity complies with the Data Protection Act, GDPR and ICO recommendations, updating and briefing the team as required.
  • Actively networking at appropriate events and securing new introductions. Ensure that processes are in place for effective acquisition of and evaluation and reporting on all trust funding.

Fundraising

  • To contribute towards all areas of fundraising within the department.
  • Identify, create and develop opportunities for new fundraising and donor recruitment, retention and development activities to increase fundraising income.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for corporate advertising and sponsorship of fundraising activities and events.
  • Accurately capture and maintain supporter data and information held on Raiser’s Edge in compliance with hospice policy and data protection legislation, ensuring regular data cleansing activities are undertaken to improve the quality of data held.
  • Make effective use of donor data by segmenting and targeting accordingly to achieve increased supporter lifetime value and best return on investment for fundraising activities and events.
  • Maintain a current understanding of data protection legislation, the Institute of Fundraising Codes of Practice and OSCR regulations and ensure all fundraising activities comply with legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake all of your own administrative support.

Responsibilities for all employees

  • Operate at all times within the Ardgowan Hospice values.
  • Work constructively and collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders at all times.
  • Act as an ambassador for Ardgowan Hospice at all times.
  • Participate in annual appraisal and attend any training identified.
  • Attend all mandatory training, e.g. fire training, moving and handling etc.
  • Abide by the Policies and Procedures of Ardgowan Hospice.

About you

It’s very important that you have experience of Trust and Grants fundraising, with a proven track record of success. In addition you will be experienced in researching new sources of funding. You are able to work as part of a team and also independently, liaising with funders as required.

As you will be responsible for producing reporting alongside services and Senior management reports, clear evidence of this skill will be required at interview.

An understanding of legacy fundraising would be helpful in the role.

Key Relationships – Internal & External

The job holder will communicate internally with all departments to gather information and stats relevant to funding bids. You will work closely with all departments and senior management to expand our portfolio and build cases for support for each service. Externally, communicates with potential trusts and builds relationships with peers in the sector and participates in sector Special Interest Groups.
