Learning for Sustainability Scotland, Scotland’s UN University-recognised Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development, is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Development Manager to join our team.

In this pivotal role, you’ll be at the heart of our work, harnessing the transformative power of Learning for Sustainability and collaborating with our members and partners to shape Scotland’s sustainable future.

Based within the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, the successful candidate will join a vibrant, ambitious, collegiate team to lead the development and coordination of Learning for Sustainability Scotland programmes and support the development of core Learning for Sustainability Scotland business; in collaboration with the Learning for Sustainability Scotland’s Director, Dr Beth Christie; an elected Steering Group and Chair; Secretariat; key internal and external partners; and its members. The Development Manager will also have direct line management responsibilities for the Learning for Sustainability Scotland’s Project Manager, and responsibility for the work of both the Project Manager and the Finance Officer.

About Learning for Sustainability Scotland

Learning for Sustainability Scotland is a pan-sectoral organisation; working across the length and breadth of Scotland and with frequent collaboration with partners across the UK, Europe, and the rest of the world. It has more than 1,000 individual and organisational members with a commitment to learning for sustainability. These include members from schools, colleges, universities, youth and community learning, local and central government and related agencies, and the ‘third sector’.

Learning for Sustainability Scotland brings in external income and works in partnership with its members and key partners to achieve its core objectives of:

• Weaving connections across sectors within Scotland and with international partners
• Co-producing, pioneering and practising new knowledge and approaches; and curating materials and resources with and for educators, organisations and communities; including consultancy activities
• Advocating for and provision of strategic advice for effective policy on Learning for Sustainability and other related areas; including the creation of policy responses on behalf of its members
• Leading, monitoring and evaluating projects and programmes locally and internationally; including the creation and delivery of professional learning.

About the Post

This is a part-time role (0.6 FTE / 21 hours per week), with the opportunity to expand to full-time depending on project development and income growth. We are open to flexible and hybrid working patterns that combine remote and regular on-campus work.

• Proven track record and commitment to, pan-sectoral knowledge of, and passion for Learning for Sustainability.
• Ability to lead, facilitate and contribute to the development of the overall strategic direction of Learning for Sustainability Scotland.
• Ability to lead, manage and develop the content of forward work plans and budgets.
• Strong organisational, team collaboration, self- and line-management, and networking skills.
• Skill and experience to represent Learning for Sustainability Scotland; including high-level external advocacy and engagement with other UN RCEs, international organisations, Scottish Government and Agencies, Scotland’s universities and colleges, schools and educators, ‘third sector’ organisations and communities, private sector, and LfS Scotland members and other individuals and bodies as appropriate.

About Aberlour Options Fife Residential Glenrothes

At Aberlour we listen to understand what our young people want and need within our local area. As such, our services in Glenrothes support young people with learning disabilities and/or autism to live and thrive within the local community.

What we are looking for....

As someone who has built up experience working in residential childcare, you will have the confidence to guide and direct the provision of care to the children and young people in the service. You will play a pivotal role, working in partnership with parents and families to meet the emotional and physical needs of children and young people with complex disabilities.

When on shift, you will play a lead role, mentoring and supporting staff and being a role model, delivering excellence in the services we provide. You will assist in assessing, planning and delivering services, taking responsibility for ensuring that assessment and interventions are prepared, monitored and evaluated.

Engaging positively with children, young people and families you will plan and implement appropriate support for the children and young people. Sensitive and accurate reporting is a key responsibility and so you will have good written communication skills and the ability to learn how to use effectively, Aberlour’s recording system: Dynamics.

This role offers the opportunity to consolidate and build on your experience combined with the ability to enhance your skills and knowledge through training, for example, in Dyadic Developmental Practice.

As part of the management team you will play an active role in ensuring that shift duties are delegated and completed in accordance with service guidance.

Senior Young People’s Workers will work 22.5 hours of their role on shift and the remaining 15 hours of their time working alongside the Service Manager on operational tasks and standardising practice. Overnight sleep ins are part of the role, alongside an awake member of night staff.

Lanarkshire Rape Crisis Centre (LRCC); established in 2004, is an independent charity with the objective of relieving the distress and improving the welfare of women and girls who, at any time in their lives, have been subjected to any form of sexual violence. LRCC works collaboratively with 17 Rape Crisis Centres across Scotland who also adhere to National Service Standards.

The National Lottery Community Fund, Improving Lives- Young Persons Project 2025-2027: Lanarkshire Rape Crisis Centre (LRCC) has been awarded funding for a 3-year period for a Young Survivors Project. The funding will provide a dedicated Young Survivors Support Service and lead to the creation of a Young People Reference Group. The Support Service will offer a range of individual and peer support options to aid in the recovery from any form of sexual violence or abuse. The Reference Group will be a space for young people to come together in solidarity, have their voices championed and amplified and be a key part of the prevention landscape tackling gender-based violence. The funding means we are recruiting 2 new staff to lead on the development and delivery of the project and work collaboratively within our existing staff teams to deliver the project outcomes.

Purpose of Job

To deliver specialist therapeutic support and information services to young survivors age 12yrs+ affected by sexual violence, at our main premises, at outreach locations across Lanarkshire and via virtual methods.
